View Full Version : Some Painter IX problems...
Einar 12-02-2004, 07:12 PM I find that some brushes, including the ones I use the most (Wet Gouache Round) are slower than in Painter 8. I set the Boost slider to 100% but when I've used a different brush and come back to the Gouache, the slider is always set back to 0%. Is there any way to avoid this? Also, a smaller problem is (and I assume this is just somewhat of a glitch in the program) when I set it to 100% and close the Brush Creator, my Property Bar always get resized. I keep it on my second monitor and after I do this it always gets bigger and sticks into my main monitor. No big deal, just a bit annoying.
Another thing is that, in the File menu, my most recently used files never show up. It always lags by 2-4 files, which makes this option pretty useless. Same thing is the case at the start-up menu-- it's always showing older files where I'm supposed to have the most recent ones available to choose.
Does anybody have any thoughts about or solutions to these issues? I'm on a Mac running OS 10.3.6.

That's not happening to me, but you might try saving your Wet Gouache Round as a custom variant with the Boost slider adjusted the way you want. Be sure to give the custom variant a new name not already used by Painter, something like "WetGouacheRnd_Boost".
Also, a smaller problem is (and I assume this is just somewhat of a glitch in the program) when I set it to 100% and close the Brush Creator, my Property Bar always get resized. I have both my Property Bar and Brush Selector at the bottom of the screen. To prevent the Property Bar from resizing and covering up the Brush Selector bar when I had the Brush Selector bar on the right, I moved Property Bar to the right and checked each tool in the Tools palette to make sure everything was visible in the "worst case" (in other words, when the Property Bar is filled with the most controls). Then I moved the Property Bar so all controls would be displayed but no blank Property was visible, and placed the Brush Selector bar to the left of the Property Bar.
Now, when I use the Brush Creator (seldom, since I prefer the Brush Controls palettes), my Property Bar and Brush Selector remain just as I left them.
Another thing is that, in the File menu, my most recently used files never show up. It always lags by 2-4 files, which makes this option pretty useless. Same thing is the case at the start-up menu-- it's always showing older files where I'm supposed to have the most recent ones available to choose.

This last one is not something that seems to be happening to me either, and I don't know what to tell you. Sorry.

Thanks very much for your input, Jin!
The property bar problem seems to have been solved. I set up the toolbox to block it and that worked like a charm!
I have made custom versions of the Gouache (one for painting that's just set to 74% opacity and 22% resat and blenders that have 0 resat and 30 % opacity. Unfortunately, the changes haven't had any impact on the problem issue and I'm not sure what to try next.
