I'm a student and my budget is as limited as it can get, under 1000.

I have an AMD FX 55 right now with 1GB with 5200FX for a video card.

I've recently taken up animation and I'm looking for a faster rendering system, what would guys recommend. How is dual Xeons going to compare to my SingleCPU system?

are you sure you need a faster cpu??! for starters i'd say you need a new video card. think about getting yourself gf6800/gt/u (or some quadro if you've got enough cash) and maybe another gig of ram...

and yeah, dual xeons will improve your rendering times, but don't expect miracles...

I have to go with 'Dirty' on this one. You can always wait on renders to finish, but you'll soon find yourself very frustrated with Viewports that doesn't refresh fast enough.

See if you can update the CPU only on you motherboard, most mainboards let you upgrade the CPU on the motherboard for a faster one with the same socket. Invest in some RAM and a gf6800 card, instead of shelling out on a brand new computer.

Or, you could buy a kickass machine so that you have two and set up a renderfarm. :)

You have an FX-55 now? Seriously, how much faster do you want to get? The only thing noticably faster in rendering will be a dual cpu system.

Try optimizing your scenes a bit, and remember rendering takes a while...

the fx-55 is the ultimate cpu you can have right now (excepet having dual cpu system) and the one and only thing you don't want to do is to change it! ;)
that cpu is also easy to overclock, getting 2.8GHz is the easiest thing you can get with the stock cooler included, almost everyone reach that speed stable with the original fx-55 cooler, however, you do as you wish, but remember, don't change the cpu! :)

i agree with the others. dont go buying a whole new brand system, stick to the one you have and invest in ram and a better video card in my opinion
