View Full Version : Soft Selection Radius
vectormodeling 12-02-2004, 07:45 AM Anybody know if there is a way to change the soft selection radius without going to the attribute editor? Like a some hotkeys or maybe the scroll wheel or something? Interactivity would be nice.

Please send in a request to Maxon throught thier web site. I have already asked for better soft sel controls. The more people ask them for a feature, the better the chances of it being implemented.
I would lik eto have a hotkey to modify radius, another to modify the strength. And several other soft sel / fall offs modes ( spherical falloff, linear..) and MOST IMPORTANTLY, a visual feedback of the soft selections in the editor ( a la Mesh Surgery, but also Max, Silo...)
At the moment I have added the main controls to the HUD, then saved t he scene as New.c4d under teh C4d directory ( so that the controls appear automaticaly in the Hud for a new document - quite useful fo rthe most used functions.)

dont know any way, too and agree with the feature request.
At least theradius should have a hotkey.
And a visual representation of the falloff would be nice.
Otherwise the tool is cool, verx flexible and lots of options.

Yes. That would be nice. Perhaps it could be set up using the bracket[] keys like in Photoshop resizing the brush.

Perhaps I have been spoiled using Mesh Surgery with r8...
It's true that there are quite a few options for Soft sels in r9 ( though some kind of Radius falloff from cursor Mode would be really necessary). Especially if you compare to other 3d software, like Silo... But the visual feedback is missing. At the moment, the most intuitive way for me is to Vertexpaint at 100% the selection, tehn use the tag manager to blend the selection to the desired distance, then move... not very efficient workflow. Otherwise, select a size, select a mode ( or set the spline ) try, Undo try again... trial and error is also not the best method to model quickly... The tool has a lot of potential, the implementation should be refined though.
