View Full Version : How do the Pros do it?
kmblackbear06 12-02-2004, 05:21 AM I am sure I'm not the only person wondering this question so here goes... I know that a lot of pros texture their stuff either on their own or they have a texture artist do it for them. But where do the textures usually come from? Do they sit down in photoshop and crank out badass looking textures for everything they do? A combination from making them and finding them? Take picture of them if possible? I know the 3D Total Texture disks look great, but is this sort of thing looked down upon in the prfessional level of 3D? I would love to hear some feedback. I am just getting into 3D and hope to someday have a career with it.

I'm a professional texturing artist. I tend to create most of the stuff in PS, but I do sometimes incorporate photographic elements into the textures. The only reason I tend to create most of my stuff myself is because I find it more enjoyable.
The methods you use are entirely up to you, as it's the final look that counts. No methods are "looked down upon" - as long as the textures work, no-one cares how you did it. It's the same with all CG in general - CG is a con art that is full of tricks and deception.

Thanks a bunch for giving me the heads up on it. If it looks real, then it's good enough seems to be a rule to remember. I have been looking at a few texture tutorials to try to texture stuff a little better. I'm just a new guy around here, I have been somewhat artistic/creative most of my life. The CG world is something I really enjoy, and hope to have a career in one day after college/grad school.
I really need to get out of Maine though, and be somewhere where I can relate with other fellow CG artists just like here, only in real life. Maybe I'll attend Full-Sail... Oh well enough of my rambling. Once I finish with this busy semester at school, I hope to be able to start posting my 2D and 3D artwork. As for now, back to the busy work from classes.
