Hey, ive been doing modelling and skinning work for ages, alas, im a bit of a max noob, and ive never had to work with rendering or anything, as ive only done stuff for games.

Now, my question is, how can i get a good soft look for a cushion or similar, as i am trying to texture a couch and it just always looks like concrete or plastic... :/

any help is greatly appreciated.

Here is what ive got so far:

I want to make the fabric look more soft and cooshy.... and i also would like to add a pillow of some description.

I think it would help to experiment with your lighting and shader. The "pure white" brightness is making it look unnatural. Maybe turn down the diffuse a bit, or change the color. Try to get some interesting shadow going on with it. Try incorporating some subtle variance in the fabric on your model. It seems that your model is pretty rigid. Even tightly pulled fabric on furniture has wrinkles, folds or slight variance in it. Considerately placed lighting can show off these traits. There are tutorials out there on making velvet looking shaders if you are going for a soft fuzzy look. I don’t know 3dmax, but I bet there are some fabric shader tutorials out there for it.
