I learned finalrenderer and liked it alot. Can anybody tell me is it good enough in comparison to others (taking into accout render speed, raytracing quality and all this HDRI's , displacements and SSS's =) or its better for me to switch to MRay or Brasil ? I dont know how good they are so I ask people who used both (finalrenderer + others ) long enough to make expert conclusions . Thank you.

P.S.: Please don't tell me things like "Use whatever you like" cuz I got straight question here
(by the way people who got finalRenderer or finalRenderer SP1.0 dont bother to post I know this versions are full of holes (Ive got SP 2.0):buttrock:

It's a tough question. If finalrender is doing what you want then I think that's fine. If you are experienced with finalrender you may also know what you don't like about it. Make a list of what you don't like and test the other renderers to see if they do those things better or faster.

As a general observation, Vray and Brazil seem to be more popular with the 3dsmax crowd and Mental Ray doesn't seem to be very popular. Possibly because of price and complexity.

and I doubt, from other previous comments, that Mr Foster has touched Max in many years, let alone any 3rd party renderers for it.

I personally used fR stage 0 and it drove me crazy with instability, and inconsistancy. But I understand that the newer versions are far more stable and predicable. I am now a Brazil user myself, because it was stable, intuitive and did what I needed.

I love FR - I used to use Brazil alot, but I have found FR faster and its advance3d materials seems to produce better results, its GI is accurate and quick aswell.

We use fR and, after testing and still having a look to them, we really enjoy it. Really fast, and control over all aspect of the render, you do what you want, not what th renderer can do. But it is more difficult to learn due to all these controls (that's why we love it here, but also why lot of people speak about it after playing a few min without understanding it). So if you like it, here you are ! The more you will use it, the more you will love it.

Hi ! I use FR for 3 yearz. The more i use it, the more i don't like it. The reason is that i need good interior results, but FR can't render as good as Vray. Yes, FR is faster than Vray, but results of indoor illumination always dissapoint me :hmm: So now i'm learning Vray ;) The speed is slower, but reult is much better :applause:

I have tried MR, VRay, Brazil and FR-Stage 1 SP2d.

I did not like MR because I think it is too slow and the GI is not so adjustable as I want.
VRay is good.
Brazil was my favorite for a long time due too it's speed and good GI.
Finalrender Stage-1 SP2D is BY FAR THE BEST render-engine I've used!!

FR's GI, Caustics, SSS (and so on) is extremely controllable. It is (at least on my machines) very stable. brazil tender too crash sometimes (at least on my machines).
It is very easy too set up a renderfarm.

This is my opinion.

hmm.. here at work we use vray, but have a few licenses of brazil that were used in the past before I started here. The understanding they gave me is that brazil seemed a rock solid (stable) app but just failed miserably at rendering interiors in a somewhat speedy manner, hence the move to vray. Vray is fast, but still seems somewhat unstable. Once your scene starts getting large you start getting these vray exception windows that are very annoying.

Still, I love vray, but will have to see how brazil 2.0 looks when it comes out. :) Never used fR, but have spoken with others that have and they consensus what that stage-0 was so worthless, that they moved and haven't looked back. Too bad, as stage 1 looks promising.
