Title: Mountains
Name: Maciej Kuciara
Country: Poland
Software: Photoshop

Hey there, this is personal stuff and a second matte painting I did. Picture was painted completly from the scratch and damn I've finally done it icon_smile.gif
I left few moments not so detailed as I wished, just thought that this is the moment to start something new.

If it weren't for the fog near the middle of the picture, I wouldn't believe that this isn't a photograph. Excellent job.

The fog in the distance is good. But the mountain on the right seems to fade into the distance too soon, but other than that, this is a perfect piece.

You did a wonderful job with the texturing of the mountains, and especially with the foilage--very high levels of details, can't stop looking at them! :love:Mist might want to be a bit thicker around the waterfall area though instead of being so far back with the rest of the humidity. I do like how you faded the mountains with the background sky. Also, the points on the left clif face at the top seem a bit too bright compared to the rest of the image (though it could be that I'm on a laptop which has a bright LCD). I don't want to sound like an ass , as it's far better than anything I have made, but these are just some things I noticed :)

looks very nice, dude. excellent attention to detail - the only thing that to me jars a bit are the plants in the foreground. I think it's the details in them, the blots seem to be bigger there than the details on the rocks in the middleground, so there's a bit of confusion as to scale.

imho, anyways.

great work!

>Were you inspired by Yosemite Falls and the works of Thomas Moran?

3DDave, I've checked this falls and yes , this falls were the main reference for the picture. I just didnt knew their names.

The original dimension of the picture is 4000 of width, but when starting the painting I was working on 2x lower size (big brushes, my machine couldn't hadle it), then when I've started with details I changed its size.

Plaf, you might be right, I didn't put attention on that earlier. I did decided to finish the picture on a stage as U see now, I could of course gone more with the details and work and consider every pixel, but I just got no more strength to do that. Still must get back to Grand opera picture and lot of more stuff to do.

Anyway great thanks for comments! I really didnt supposed U gonna like it so much :)

Wow! I love the use of Atmospheric Perspective. The mist of the water rising in the middle distance is spot on. The whole scene reminds me of the Hudson Valley School of landscape artists of the Romantic Period of the 19th century. Somebody did their homework. Very well done!!!

Moje gratulacje. Swietny klimat i kolorystyka. 5+ :)

Extremingly beautiful picture. I just love that peaceful atmosphere, still having all of that small detail going on, e.g. the birds, the waterfall. But there's something threatening this quite situation as the clouds indicate. So it's really on the edge between an ideal peaceful moment and the storm to come. Truely gives your image depth by means of context, although you may not have planed it or I'm just misinterreting it.

Anyway, great picture and awesome work on the rocks!

Great piece! Looks photo realistic. It shows that a great matte still use many traditional painting techniques to create the illusion of realism. This is masterly carried out in this matte - very detailed.

bumbleb
12-14-2004, 11:32 AM
if this truly is a painting done from scratch, well done, it's beautiful. As a matte painter it is fundamental to have illustration skills. Most matte paintings today are built with photos, this coupled with your traditional eye will set you above other matte artists in the industry. Look forward to seeing your efforts :)

Looks pretty close to me, though I'm not questioning the painting - he said it's matte painting and real matte painter would have used the photo as a part of his painting, not just look reference.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/Sir_Ranath/pic.jpg[url="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/Sir_Ranath/pic.jpg"] (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v230/Sir_Ranath/pic.jpg)
