I am sorry if this has been asked before, or if I posted it in the wrong place. And I am sorry for asking sutch a stupid question

What I am wondering is shortly said; How do I save a file in Maya 6.0 in other file formats than .mb and .ma?
I have a little animation I whant to save as .avi or ant movie-file
and some pictures, but I can only open them in Maya, and I kind of wish to put them in my future online-gallery...

Maya is also the wery first 3d program I used, and I have had it for almost a week now, so I am still wery new to it

as far as i know i don't think you can save it in any other format. i'm not sure but you can export files to other compatible softwares if they allow it.

Now I found how to save as .mi.(some numbers), but I still have a hard time figuring how to save animations as .mov or .avi

Should I get another program aswell?

You can't save your animation in AVI format untill you render it.

yes you can't save an animation in mpeg or avi. first you will have to render it in avi format, then you can convert the .avi to any other video format using softwares that do so. i'm not sure which sorftwares do that, but that won't be difficult to find.

it's wise to not render as avi, but to render frames and use another program to turn it into avi. that way you can rerender portions of it and don't have to worry about a computer crash causing your whole render to be gone. also, if you don't want a fully rendered version and you just want an avi of what you see in the viewport, you can do a playblast(right click on the timeline)
