Visions visions, going mad with the visions :P

Hmmm not to offend anyone but the visions topics kind of block my creativity....
I start searching for refs and stuff to find something what I could paint.
Using references is a great help to improve painting skills but it's not very creative.

I'd like to see more free topics again where everyone can participate more with creativity.
There where a lot of paintings with reference lately. I did one too. I don't think that it is
a bad thing. People like Telemaco showed us that you can do amazing art using reference.
But I think the sketchgroup is more a creative forum where everyone can show his creativity.

So what I want to say is that such topics would be great once a week. But not in a series imo.
Just a thought...

Cheers!
Goro

Didn't really have an idea what puerto rico looks like. Google gave me quite a lot of forests, so forest it be. :D

came out a little boring. anyhow:

Yeah, Goro is probably right... we all can blame Garma ;)
Nice pic btw Garma... a little Chupacabra hopping around the trees would be nice tough :)

Okay, Russia was Vodka and Holland was weed. What's the controlled substance of choice in Puerto Rico? :)

Seriously, though. I don't feel that I can comment accurately since I haven't done a "Visions of" sketch yet, but I like the fact that people have to do a bit of research to do their sketch. Even if somebody wants to play with stereotypes, theres still background elements that need to be researched to make a decent pic. I like this theme, but maybe if they were done once a week people wouldn't have to skip a whole week of Daily Sketch if they don't prefer the theme.

I agree Goro. This has been a tough week for me because nothing has been coming to me creatively. I sat it out 2 days, but yesterday I used a ref of a pic I took. Today I've been surfing the web looking for references. Its not stirring up the creative juices at all. :(

But then again, if none of you post, maybe I could actually win a fav. sketch! HA HA! :)

Garma - I don't know about all of Puerto Rico, but I do know that San Juan is a coastal city with lots of sunshine. So maybe you need a beach umbrella in there some place! <hee hee>

Ok, some things that come to mind when I think of (have visions ;) of) Puerto Rico is:

-of course our little critter, the Chupacabra
-Jeniffer Lopez
-West side story
-Roberto
-Puerto Rican big ass girls (yay!), oh wait I already mentioned JLo...
-my fav, Puerto Rican Salsa, think I'm going to do this one, specially for our lil friend Roberto
-Puerto Rican Mime (these guys are everywhere...)
-...

You don't need reference to do the above, just your imagination.

Of course ref pics are great too.

edit: why the hell San Juan, I didn't see that one... now my line-up is messed up!! :scream:

Going back for Christmas!!! :bounce: Is always so wonderful to visit home!
Goro— nice one, you have captured the hot blooded nature of the very sensual art of salsa dancing. Considering that you've never been there yourself you get two thumbs waaay up
Now the batteries are charged up and ready to catch up with my sketching. This one is going to be a hard one.

Hey Goro that's great, just like the real deal!
Gonna put on some Puerto Rican Salsa when I make mine ;)

Thought my ideas were screwed when I noticed 'san juan'...
But you could look it this way:
-chups in San Juan (studying man and trying to learn some Spanish)
-JLo in San Juan (visiting relatives)
-Big ass girls of San Juan (hey... Latina's right?)
-west side story taking place in San Juan (must happen there too, right?)
-Roberto in San Juan (doing stuff)
-Salsa in San Juan (puerto rican style)
and of course those annoying mime dudes of San Juan (they're really everywhere...)

Going to finish my vision of the Netherlands now...

edit: I had to fix the "squiggle" snow on the trees or I would have gone nuts. Besides, I like it better in big chunks that can fall off the branch and bury you.

I think this kind of topics doesn't crush creativity, using references or not doesn't goes with the "visions" concept, I think this is as free as other ones...

:)

Just an opinion.

thnx for your comments guys! I appreciate it!

nice one got
great idea soup! had to laugh!

Telemaco
Don't get me wrong. It's just that if you have similar topics every day I have difficulties
to free my mind. And when it's about countries you have to research which is a good thing.
But I just want to say that it would be cooler when we have completely different topics
everyday. The vision thing is nice but only if it's not so often. imo

cheers!

Looking for references about Puerto Rico I found a cock fight photograph in San Juan, few years ago... I liked the topic, inspired in my reference this is what I did:

i'm with Goro, basicly what we are now trying to do is trying to move out of the "vision" theme within the "vision" theme, just check the soups idea :)

...i would never do that to you because i know how it feels. It sucks when I have to spend Xmas here, is so cold and dry. And of course absolutely nothing compares to home cooking. That goes for anyone and/or anywhere they are.
I'd only do that to someone mean. For example...i will be on the beach and I will call that person and say something like...sorry about the noise in the background, it must be the sound of the waves crashing against the sand...is not very practical for a conference call, I'll call you when I'm indoors.

But not you Roberto...bendito!

The architechture of my Old San Juan is one if it's most breathtaking features. This is a very quick 1 Hr PS/Wacom sketch. I'm swamped with work, I'll try to post another one by this weekend. ...BTW...yes, I had the nerve to recycle my pigeons! LOL. :)
