Yep. In the hypershade, under Edit > Convert to File Texture

Using the Convert to File Texture will convert any material to a single colour map according to the mesh's UVs (important to have good UVs made). Select the object, select the material, then go Edit > Convert to File Texture (Option Box). In the options you can specify things like file type, resoultion, AA, whether to bake lighting and shading, or shadows into the image (good for lightmaps). When you run it, it'll bake the material into a seperate file assign the file to another material and then automatically assign that material to your mesh.

To completely remove a material and all textures, utilities, etc assigned to it, select the material, click the 'input and output connections' icon then in the work area it'll display the material and all connected nodes. Then just select and delete. If you just wish to delete a texture, go into the textures tab, and hit delete. However there's usually a mapping utility linked to texture nodes, in which case, select the texture, clicl 'input and output connections' again, and select just the texture and mapping utility and hit delete

Thanks, that helps as far as the removal.

I tried what u suggested and it messed up my texture :(. I'm using a planar projection from a file i made...(i'm really not to familiar with the whole texture thing)...its assigned to a material with a bump map and then i also applied a wood texture to that....hehe

welp ill just have to play with it ;p

thanks again.

Remember you need propperly layed out UVs. If you're using NURBS you shouldn't have much trouble, but if you're using polys, you should manually lay out the UVs. The planar projection you mentioned, is that a Planar mapping (Edit Polygons>Planar Mappiong) where it edits the poly's UVs (what you need for baking the texture) or the Planar projection that you can choose when creating a texture?

well here's the thing....I dont know how to lay out UVs. The planar projection i used is the type wher u create a texture.

I'll keep playing with it...thanks.
