Hi

I've noticed here that most of the people using Animate and/or Studio are also using a full 3D package like Lightwave, Cinema or else. With Animate I do understand, it's just an animation, rigging soft.

My questions is about Studio, not Animate ok.

- Why are you using a full 3D software?
- Why not just a modeler?
- Do you know if Silo/Wings 3D will be enough as modelers?

Thanks

Many of us already had lightwave to begin with, and purchased Studio with the knowledge that the messiah renderer would be a replacement/compliment to lightwave/maya/C4d's rendering software.

Messiah's features are Animation and rendering. there are many modelers out there, and all of them export a format that Messiah can use, so there isn't much point to programming a software feature that everyone can get for free.

as for rendering, messiah's renderer is quite integrated into the program. By that, I dont mean load an object and press render, but the ability to use features that are part of the rigging process to control the rendering process(see Taron's Neckling for the most recent attention)

as for modeling, I use wings3d. its free, it does everything I need it to do(including setting up UV maps). and is quite intuitive at handling everyday tasks.

Yeah....what he said :D

As far as 'modelers' go, make sure you can set up your uv maps in them before bringing them into messiah:studio.

Wings 3D = yes
Modo = yes
silo = no (at least the last time I checked)

So the model has to be textured befor going to Studio..?
Messiah Studio doesn't do textures..!
Very interesting, thanks guys.

Modo is probably the best choice but I think it's a bit expensive for just a modeler.
So a model done in Wings will animate very well in Studio.
Just concerned about the quality of some exporter. Not all obj exporters are equal as you now.
I thought the obj exporter in Silo was better but what do I know...! But not the UV map..! Can't win....:scream:

Of course, you can texture in messiah. But you have to create the UV maps elsewhere - usually in another app that has the modeling tools to "affect" the mesh. I, myself, am a Silo fan and the boys at Nevercenter are working hard on the UV mapping capabilities as we speak. :)

Another point to add why people are using C4D and LW together with m:s is that these packages offer some animation and rendering features that m:s doesn't offer. On the animation side it's much easier to do the flying logo thing or some spline-based animation in C4D, while on the rendering side C4D and LW offer solutions for volumetrics, fur/hair and a more complete particle system. So it's probably best if you have one of these packages as a complement.

Concerning modelers, a question to those that use Wings 3D or Silo: How are morphs created and exported to m:s ? Is there anything comparable to LW's endomorphs or do you have to model and export a series of .obj files ?

I can only speak for Silo - something like LWs ''endomorphs" is in the works. :)

MorphTargets are done the same as in Maya. Duplicates of the model are made in Wings with your tweaks to represent each target. Someone wrote a lightwave exporter so you can keep all of your layers in the same file. otherwise, yes, export obj files.

I didn't know about that one. Can you give me a link?
