Name: Marcel Laverdet

hello!... a cartoon approach , with direct texturing via texture master, in zbrush... render in carrara, for the dog, the ground and the "house", background (blur) added in post work...

Very very cool. I'd love to know how you did the hair.

Great Job on the fur, the only thing i noticed was the teeth kinda look plastic, i think u were trying to make it look wet ( or saliva )??? But other then that great job texturing

Thank you for your comments!... the way I paint the fur is just that: painted; no fur plug in; I think that the most important in hair, or fur, is all the directions that fur get, on a living character; and each time I've tried fur generator (like "anything grows") , it seems just impossible to have a natural look, although they are great for funny effects; there is also a little trick I use with bump, that I'm going to post after; here is the head, where it's possible to see the map of "fur"...

the little "trick": the bump map is first with addede contrast; then I apply in photoshop a noise, subtle but real, to have a very complicated bump...with different level of bump, handled by "filter" , a plug in from digital carvers, it usually do the job; little "hair" out of the main form , is of course "hand" painted...

celmar, this is excellent work man, you should be proud! love the hair technique, i'll have to give that a try at some point, as i totally agree about hair plugins...

my only critique of the piece would be that the dog is not big enough within the frame, my eye was constantly drawn to the house behind him, which is great too by the way, i just felt the dog should be more dominant in the image, but thats just my opinion, and i'm not detracting from what is really great work. keep it up...

The cool stuff has been pointed out, on the whole it's a great image and character :)

What could be improved:
The texture on the dogs' gums is very blurry. The texture on his collar is lowres-looking and way too uniform, this should be crisper and dirtied up IMO. Now it sticks out too much against the very sharp fur.

There's a defined 'crease' in the background texture where the transition from blurry to extremely blurry is very apparent, which makes it look like a bad photoshop cut-out.
