View Full Version : Modeling :: Sofa
design721 11-29-2004, 06:01 PM I am trying to model a sofa similar to this one: http://www.bebitalia.it/frset.asp?acceso=collection&sezione=prodotti&lingua=uk&area=catalogo
but with rounder corners. I would prefer to do this with polygons, but cannot seem to figure it out.
FormZ is what I am familiar with where you just select an edge and hit 'round'.
What would be the best way to do this? And yes, I've searched through this site and others, but haven't found any tutorials or info.
Thanks.

Try selecting the edge you want to round and chamfer several times. You may need to adjust the chamfer amount each time but after 3 or so you should get the result you desire.

There is the meshsmooth modifier. And then, there is e-interiors.net, with tons of 3d models in the style you are modelling. Some of the files are native max files, with the modifier list intact, you could use one for inspiration

chamfer is your best bet.
and if you sign up at the b&b site you can download the 3d models for most of the ranges. excluding the new ones.

Thanks. I have not been to the e-interiors site in something like a year, glad to see they've continued to update. I was unable to find anything beyond 3DS or DWG/DXF files - no Max files with the modifiers in place, unfortunately.
I have all of the b&b stuff, but that particular couch is not in 3D (or it wasn't several months ago when I downloaded the models). Man, I love the couch!!
So chamfer is it, eh? Not to bitch, well, a little, but it is so messy! I am just surprised that you cannot specifiy the exact radius of the curvature (I think I mentioned, in FormZ you just select the edge/face/vertex, enter the radius and the face count, click, and you've got a perfect curve to any solid). Oh, well, I guess people are always saying how inaccurate Max is, guess I never bought it!
Another option I like, due to the control, is the chamfer box (just found that one).
