CGTalk - Faded original

I recently posted a piece of art at cgtalk and i've noticed that the posted image, which was suppose to be of lesser quality because i went to jpeg from riff, is sharper than the original i haven't touched the original since posting. Would anyone know why this happend and how i can regain the crispness. I've spent at least 20 minutes comparing and there definately is a difference. I use iMAC G4 and painter 8

I'm pretty sure cgtalk's uploading system does some kind of automatic processing to the images.

No, when i first posted the images were almost identical, with the original being a little better, i always wish i did'nt have to save to jpeg so i wouldn't not lose quality, now the jpeg posted image is clearly sharper, this is troubling. I've compared at a great extent and i'm not seeing things. Would you know why this is happening?
