Hi gang,

I am currently working on a plugin for dynamics system for XSI.
NOT ODE. Something new, hah... ;-)

techsmith codec required.

cheers,

just in case - the codec link:

and a small bouncy one:

poo on my shoe

Awsome!! Constraint breaking.

the examples look really good to me. C++ stuff?

just a comment. why do people use those strange movie formats? isnt it easier for the most of the cg talk users to play with the standards? like quicktime sorenson? or mpg? or simple avi?

proly it's just me... bi*ching around.

whoah!!!
What's the ETA for the beta's ;P

Very interesting indeed.

I believe the techsmith codec gives much better results with viewport captures than other codecs, correct me if I'm wrong?

Helge, outdoing yourself once again! Results look sweet so far, can't wait to see what you can do with it commercially :)

That's pretty scary, Helge. Are we related in some way? I'm just doing the same at the moment. Maybe we should coordinate better to cut dev time in half. :)

Hope you don't mind me posting in your thread but since it's a small group of people doing dynamics in XSI, even smaller not using ODE, I thought it might be OK to show up.

Sim is running at interactive rates( roughly 3fps using 8-16 substeps).

Keep up the good work,

nice one both of you.

Felix : your video remind me a paper i read about bd-tree ( http://graphics.cs.cmu.edu/projects/bdtree/). Any connection with it ?

You mean technically? I wish :) This paper is about collision detection on deformable! models which is quite advanced.

Other than that: Well, piling up stuff.

I actually use the bd tree to calculate collissions.

It is pretty simple to implement, if you want I'll send some code over... ;-)

And yeah - we definitely should join a team man... maybe at omation? ;-)
Nice greetings from california...

And yaiss - please feel free to show up in this thread anytime.

Cool stuff guys. I had to laugh watching you try to shake that last ball off the chain...

Will this plug-in work in Foundation?

felix that is outstanding.

both of you great work.

it's amazing that cg talk users are developing their own dynamics engine. would anyone think about it when i.e. maya was in beta 1 version? lol...

please, when you join for this project... can i became the beta tester? please please please :P

good luck to both of you!

As for me I'm not developing an engine that tighly fits into XSI. That's better left to the hard working people at Soft. I'm just playing with integrating SOME middleware functionality into the particle system for tasks where it is better to not work with individual objects or I just need a precise trigger. So, not such a biggy. Helge on the other hand is crazy enough. :)

Will you be releasing it commercially?

laluneverte
11-30-2004, 03:16 AM
oh these cubes are particles? I see... now it makes sense to me, you crazy particle freak... ;-)

The engine I build is pretty open... I have templates for constraints and simulation behaviour...
also inputs/outputs of objects can change over time, they are animatable..
no more fixed input output connections!

Stay tuned, I might release an open version...

I am not planning it to release it commercially,
although I made bad experience with releasing
stuff for free... so let's see..

Helge,

I leave for a few days and I come back to some sweet dynamics!! Great work man. Can't wait to see how you did it.

later,

Lu

Thursday is so very far awaaaaaaay...
to wait to see rigid bodaaaaaays...
what rhymes with rigid bodaaaaaays...
bombaaaaaay... ugh...

oh well, I guess that's the end of that song...

keep up the good stuff man

great work... looking forward to developments...

just a thought.. (devils advocate etc..)

given that:

A) XSI Foundations is SOOOOOO cheap, presuambly to increase XSI market share and shift people from other aps into XSI

B) at $495, XSI cannot sustain RnD to the same degree as other apps

C) if lots of work arounds for the stuff that ain't in FOundations comes out, then won't that harm the very product we love so much?

just a thought:shrug: ....

still when it works I'll be in line for the download. :D

laluneverte

agreed.

I am diggin' it.

hmmm... let me just quote my previous message:

"great work... looking forward to developments... "

francesca: I am not sure "you are overwriting it with your bullshits. shut your mouth !!" is appropriate for this forum.

From reading other posts on CGtalk, it appears to me that software piracy is not encouraged. Certainly there are no threads regarding Cracks, Warez, Keygens etc. Furthermore, most people in this forum seem to have bought licenses, or have access to legal licenses of the software they use. (?maybe I am naive..?)

Still, at some point there is a line between a work-around, a plugin, and a crack.

I think in this case, there is no real issue, as what is being spoken about is essentially a free-plugin. That is great, and can I make it absolutely clear that I support it entirely.

There are other scripts which unlock parts of XSI which are only available in Exp and Adv. In that case, the difference between them and a crack is minimal. Again, I am not saying don't use them, but just think about it first.

I think we are all very happy with XSI new pricing strategy, and it is obviously a gamble on the part of Softimage.

I didn't mean to offend, and I apologies if you (pleural) think that these comments should be on another thread. I won't post in this thread again... Although I don't feel they are completely irrelevant.

Anyway, for all of you working on RBcollisions... keep up the good work, and you have my full (irrelevant) support.
