Really like it. For me it doesn't need much details. It's simple and it woks like this. It makes a rendering near realism but with his own style.

You design is very appealing. The character feels plush, clay like, meaty. Pleasant on the eyes. It's simple and elegant. As a still it looks very good. How do the animation and facial expressions hold up? Or is your intent illustrative only?

Lighting wise, I'd add more rim to pop her off the bg more. Bg looks very soft light, her's is harsh and doesn't match. Seems too dark under her shirt and sleeves.

I agree, she doesn't need more detail - everything fits in terms of style at the moment - nice job!

hi thanks for the reply's,glad you like the style. at the moment this is just a still i wanted something finished to show for the time id spent making her, a short animation piece is my main goal though, heres some frame grabs of the basic expressions i have at the moment still quite basic.(the teeth are a placeholder)http://www.evol.co.za/download/pirate_express.jpg

This is a really brilliant bit of modelling for me - it's a style I would really like to move towards, particular the feel of the rendering in that it's real but still clay like.

Do you have any advise on the settings for render and the material used please.

Only small crit is as mentioned with the sleeves turn up needing to be more cloth.

Very good work.

biglarry if you are using mental ray use final gathering with only 1 low intensity light or a bounce card(any self illuminated object)and a spec only light for things like the cornea.

combine that with a subtle bump map a fractal or noise.and place a slightly lighter and more saturated copy of your diffuse map in the outside color of a falloff material.i see you use maya so either use the gradient toon shader or use the sampler info node to control a gradient maps falloff. try these before using Gi. to get a feel. hope that helps.

Looks great - I'd like to see some different angles on her.

She’s just the right combination of cute and sexy.

I don’t think she needs any additional details but some parts can benefit from some refinements.

The left wrist (her left) at this angle shouldn’t have a crease. There shouldn’t be a fold in the skin between the thumb and the index in the right hand, I bet that’s a rig deformation problem but if this is for a still image you can refine it with some extra modeling on top of the rig.
I think she’ll look better with a slightly thinner neck. It will make her look more delicate and probably cuter.
The grab of the pistol is not very convincing. It makes sense that she will hold it lightly but still, she needs to put some pressure to prevent it from slipping.
You can make the bellybutton a bit more obvious. Especially with that lovely piece of body art you gave her it will just look better and make the entire belly area more interesting.
I agree with the people who suggested working on her shirt. You shouldn’t add details there (as with the rest of the model) but you do need to give it a more “clothy” feel (right now it looks like a piece of vacuum form plastic).
The earring can be a hair thicker, giving it more presence (and enhance the cartoon feeling of the image).
The pose and her facial expression are both great. However, it’s obvious that at this stage of her development you must take cautions when choosing angles to shoot her. In your facial renders she doesn’t look as pretty.

All in all great work. I do hope you’ll continue working on her

Looking forward,

Best

no she doesent, those were taken from a test anim i made a while back, her head is finished now so i dont think it matters what angle i choose what matters is attention to the nuances of her expression which make the angle work or not ,just like any piece of work. check out a 3d show called aquakids they use alot of pure shaders in thier look.
