I have seen it run successfully on a SuSE 8.0 distro. Maybe check what version of OpenMotif it has installed and then use that version for your RH installation.

This is if you're using an nvidia board ...

have you installed the nvidia drivers ...?, .... if not, that's your problem.

Are you sure you're actually using the nvidia glx driver?
Check this in the XFree86.0.log, look for lines begining with 'NVIDIA', or if you get errors in Script Editor when you're opening Maya saying something about openGL libraries.

If you're not using it enable 'Load glx' in XF86config, and change the driver section to 'nvidia' instead of 'nv' or 'vesa' or whatever ...
... or better yet read the nvidia readme, they explain this far better then me, here's the link
http://download.nvidia.com/XFree86_40/1.0-2960/README.txt

hope this helps.

I don't know much about Ati and linux but I guess the problem are the drivers (OpenGL drivers).
Here are some links ...

http://www.ati.com/support/faq/linux.html?cboOS=LinuxXFree86&cboProducts=RAGE+128&cmdNext=GO%21
http://utah-glx.sourceforge.net/ ... go read and install the drivers you need.

Hope it helps.
