View Full Version : Segment Memory/OS X Multithreading?

Hi-

I'm a newish LW 8 user trying to optimize rendering perfromance on my new Dual 2.5 G5. I have two questions:

1. What number should I set the "Segment Memory Limit" at? I have 3GB RAM installed.

2. Is Lightwave multithreaded? That is, is it using *both* processors to render? This might seem like an obvious question, but I have looked all over the Web and I haven't found a straight answer yet.

Please advise.

Set segment memory limit high enough that you can render the framesize you want with one segement .

In Lightwaves render options you can set the number of threads for rendering for the use of both cpus for rendering set the number to at least 2 ( i dont know if the performance gets better of worse with 4 threads since i only have a single cpu ).

Hope it helps

Thanks! By the way, I make my living doing renderings for print. Obviously the size of the renderings varies greatly from project to project- I guess I will need to get in the habit of changing the segment size frequently.

The next question is: How exactly does the segment memory correspond to the size of the render? Can it be determined mathematically?

Please advise.
