I frequently convert dxf-dwg to lwo. My method is as follows:
1) open file in autodesk architectural desktop 3.3
2) save as autodesk R14
3) open R14 in turbocad
4) save as 3ds
5) open 3ds in lw8
6) save as lwo
Typically the resulting geometry is very dirty (points on points, lines on lines and much more garbage). I have not really figured out why acad geometry so nasty. Almost always I can cleanup the file by one or two orders of magnitude without losing any real geometric info. If any here could explain why dwg geometry is so ....., I would really like to know.
Also, lw8 has a metric conversion hiccup: need to scale all axis by 2.54 or .3937 (1/2.54). I really noticed that a few months ago when I sent a lwo wireframe to be directly (pretty much) manufactured via 3d milling machine. The CATIA milling machine control software needed the file scaled up by 39.37.
