View Full Version : Help with Smooth Shifting
blaqDeaph 11-27-2004, 06:49 AM Hi, I was reading(and watching) up a few tutorials, and many times when they mention "Smooth Shift", they mention to right click once. I'm vaguely aware that this seems to do something, but the tutorials didn't explain it too well. Can someone please explain to me what SmoothShift + RightClick does?

By just right clicking, it will duplicate the polygons without moving them, allowing you to manually place the points/polys where you want using either the drag tool or the move tool.

judging as how u don't know what it does then i suppose ur a newbie. well I am too. However, i do know what smooth shift click does. It creates another edgeloop for you to use and maniupulate. the best part is that the orginal edgeloop will stay there and u can expand/modify ur model.i dunno if i explained it properly but when u work w/it u get the idea of what it does

sm shift+right click is a good thing not to loose simmetry when modelling as well. plus , it give u complete control on what u do with the new poly u create. just use a combination of sm shift/move/drag tool or stretch or other modify tools and u'll get the point.:)

Selecting anything like bevel, smooth shift etc and then using right click will activate the tool. Left click will allow you to operate the tool to do insets or shifts. Once done you can activate the tool again with a right click.
The reason you typically do that with smooth shift is that you want to create the new geometry but not shift the geometry out using smooth shift because when it does it shifts along the average of the normals which may not be what you want. So usually Ill select the smooth shift tool, right click to activate it then select the move or stretch tool to move the geometry out.
