View Full Version : Dividing a mesh
RorrKonn 11-26-2004, 08:29 PM ya take a single mesh and divide in two.
so you have 2 deferent meshes.
in objects it still reads as a single object.
I can right click and split then delete.
is there a faster way to have C4D dived the mesh up ?

zBrush 2,Poser 5...+ Anything else I can afford.
Just think of the insanity we would lose with out 3D.

i'm not at all sure i'm following what you want here.
Split -> Splits off the currently selected gometry into a new object (simply hit delete once the operation has been done if you want to remove the original polys from the original object, so that's a two keypress process if you've set up split on a shortcut [Split][Backspace]).
Disconnect -> Splits the connected polys from their neighbours, but leaves a single obejct (i presume this is what you're using from your description).

I think he's asking for a command that would split the selected polys into a new object & delete them from the old object, as it is now "split" leaves the poly in the old object.
It'd only save you one more button click, but yeah I suppose it'd be nice.

Don't know if you all know TS or not
in TS there is a "Decompose in to objects" you don't select anything it just divides the mesh in to separated peaces.sorta like a un Boolean tool.
if you took 5 spaced apart meshes and booleaned in to one mesh.
"Decompose in to objects" would turn the boolean mesh back in to 5 deferent peaces.
in C4D9 with Split, Disconnect and polygon selection tags.I can dived meshes up.
all app's can do about the same they just have deferent ways of doing things.
was just wondering if there is anything like "Decompose in to objects" in C4D9.

the command you want is called "Explode Segments" it works on both Splines and Polygon Geometry

Thanks mdme_sadie
I swear I am reading the Manuel and chapter 10 is a must read alot chapter but I did not really pay attention to splines cause if I wanted to spline model I would just get Rhino.
Ya there it is explode segments .pdf page 516.
just get the impression it for splines the way the Manuel reads.
since it's for polygons also might be helpful to say so in the Manuel.
