View Full Version : WIP: Hellboy
KolbyJukes 11-26-2004, 10:03 AM Hey everybody,
I was bored tonight and started making this, more inspired by Mignola's comic hellboy then the movie, so he'll have the comic trench coat and shorts and plain Right hand of doom, without all the swirlies.

Neat so far, but shouldn't the face be more angular ? Now it looks bit too smooth IMO, and smooth is not exactly the word i'd associate with Mingola's hellboy ;)

no this isn't the video tutorial character, that's gonna be a different guy.
I still have to do alot of work on the arms, torso and a bit on the face. i started the coat tonight, but it isn't ready to show, so I thought I'd just post this little update.

Hi there!
Pretty nice work for such a short time!
I like it and look forward to updates.....
.... I noticed some glitches at his throat and right through the middle of his face... you did mirror the half model, din't you?
....could require some modeling to get rid of the prob....
by the way... if you want to make a character look even more realistic, you should model some imperfections.
just like our two face sides aren't exactly equal you should make slight changes like a larger eye, a less or more hangin' eyelid, different eyebrows, muscles slightly shifted etc....
... it's hard to see from your shots, if you did allready....
I like the shirt too....
can't wait 'til texturing......
have fun....c.ya

It's pretty hard to critique a great modeller like yourself, but here goes.
The neck/collar bone area needs to be reshapen abit. I think you could put a few more subtle details int the face, especially the mouth. It looks too round at the moment.
I really love the shirt. It looks so cool.

hey
been awhile since i seen an update now (well not really :P) anyhow no rush, take ya time  ya probly just busy... unlike me wher alot I get to a certain point when i'm modelling and then just stop cause I start thinking to far ahead of myself or something, hehe i dunno... then one day i pick it back up again :P
actually I was wondering why you did model the hair in like that? isn't ther anything in/for XSI for creating hair?
EDIT: ahh just realised what ya been up to after finding ya Characters: Lilo and Stitch thread.

I read lots of comics as a kid, I learned anatomy from there. I've never had any formal art training or anything, never took an anatomy class...one day perhaps.
These days for ref I use: 3d.sk, toys, and the 24" anatomy maquette from www.freedom-of-teach.com (http://www.freedom-of-teach.com)

This is an extraordinary model, friend. The tears in his shirt does so much for it too. Love the detail...

It looks really great overall but if i were to just look at the face i'd think it was some meathead from Ft. Lauderdale and not Mignola's Hellboy. Also his chest is a wee bit too flat and small compared to his arms/shoulders and abs...not much but a bit.
Again, nice work, keep it up. Can't wait to see the final result.
EXCELLENT MODEL ! :applause:
