View Full Version : fancy ship's hourglass
A study in texturing and modeling!
Any suggestions for doing the bump maps for the engraving?
I'd like to do some fancy twisted or leaf patterns.
I may give up and do some celtic knotwork since I think I can do that with photoshop paths

I think that that's a Good Idea...
Now, why don't u add bumps for the wood? I think that u don't need bumps for the gold metal, but a good HDRI reflection... Model have not a too good illumination...
In what program u work?

3d studio max 5.
Standard scanline renderer.
Six lights in the scene.
I've never tried HDRI before. Any good tutorials on it for version 5 of max?
I haven't turned on radiosity yet since I'm still modeling and it's very slow.
The radiosity helped bring out the details a lot but like I suspected it's very slow to render.
I tried to fake HDR but it doesn't make a noticable difference.
