Thanks for the comments guys.

Here is a quick progress image to show youa ll how he was made.
Its actually based off of a design/tutorial that our own good Glen Southern made.

thanks for that...might sound crazy but i've found myself going around collecting/referencing zsphere and early mesh images like that just so i can get my head around the whole modelling with zspheres...heh heh. i need to find out how to redo the edge loops in zb now rather than gong from one app to another...i understand you can do them in zb with some effort...arh so much to learn..so little time.

Great jobs. What did app did you use to create, render, texture, etc. Or was everything done on Zbrush. I am having some difficulty figuring out to get smooth edges. I get jagged edges. Thanks

oh cool...thanks for this...looks like just what the doctor ordered...crackin' stuff...thanks again.
i just gotta get my head around the whole zb approach to things...and i remember stuff much better when i see them done...then i can question who/why/what/when and go and look at the help or practical guide for clarification on messy parts of the process...cheers.

Nice, but are you trying to make it look so vaginal?

You should keep one of these awesome aliens smooth skinned with less texture, and almost transparent. I think this one would be perfect because of some of the thinner areas on the upper head, the ears, antenna, and the way eyes are connected you could get some cool transparencies. Try BSSSRDF type shading on this guy. That's my thought anyway.

BTW if I have not mentioned it - I think these aliens of yours are the coolest. :)

onlooker - hey thanks yeah, thats an idea. Thanks for thinking they look cool. That was the goal, to add more character. One question..I know what sss is but what is bsssrdf?

flingster

i believe he is refering to this.

Okay well here is a quick skin shader test. Nothing to fancy. Not even a texture on him yet.

cool enjoying seeing the progress on it..
i'm not keen on the eye skin creases/wrinkled look...i think you ought to go for a more snail/slug type skin look to it...smoothing towards the bone/horn parts if that makes sense...dunno..
or maybe even toad type skin..
see links ideas maybe.

Looking better and better, Mahlikus....Really appreciating the 'fleshy fold' treatment of the lower ears (joining the head) and the eyelids are superbly modelled

Thanks for the comments guys.

Flingster - Thats exactly what I had in mind. Bumpy toad like skin for the top, head, and back of neck and a softer, translicent skin for the face.

atwooki - thanks bud, I actually haven't liked my eyelid modeling but have been trying to pat more attention to it. You can see this in the first wireless render of the progress image alone.

Looks cool. Yes just SSS, but that particular version works quite well, and it's pretty fast.

that would be a nice idea...to use a hdri with the camera man still in shot...so you get the reflection in the eyes...as it is the eyes shader is cool.

The red eyes look hand-painted or post-processed. Is this true?

They're very nice.

The green skin is sweet. Just a material with no post-processing? Would you give me a hint about how its done, or is it based on another material?

In the beginning I was afraid, I told myself: Another alien Head ! Ok see another post...
But now I see your work, I had to say that is a really cool well made stuff ! Great man !

Thanks for the comments guys.

the eyes are not hand painted. It too is a Z native material.
there is a photo on there for reflection but I never though about popping on an hdri-to-bmp convert to see what it does. Going to see...
