On a side note, what brushes do you tend to use? You've got a certain style down at the moment that has a lovely rough look to it.

erilaz thnx for you kind words. Well I played around with some custom brushes I created.
It's fun to paint with your own brushes :)
Androgs thnx! nice approach btw. I see where you're going. I'm still not very good in
reflections but I think that reflections have soft and hard transitions. The brushstrokes
you made are a bit blobby. It doesn't work well. Did you see my little 5min reflection tutorial?
It can be found here (http://www.area-56.de/tutorials/reflections.rar). Just unrar and open the reflections.html
Maybe I should try little more reflectionstuff too. But it's so hard to understand :(

Goro! Thanks for the input, that's what I need about:D!! you're right, I still have some very hard time doing the reflection. hmm..maybe I just suggest some reflection theme for the daily sketch? I think that would be a good study:D. btw..your file doesn't work, it have a corrupt on it. Do you have the same tutorial in your site? maybe I'll just check it directly to your site.
Thanks..man;)!.
btw, your last one is nice one..have a nice mood on it.

Hi everyone, this is my first speed paint submission. I was just practicing how to paint in photoshop and came up with this (because i'm always using painter).
I made this in less than 1 hour.
http://hostmyfile.net/files/7966.jpg
btw, can u give me some tips? how do u blend edges using photoshop? there isn't a blender brush same in painter. and i've read from forums that using the smudge tool doesn't work well.

Hi pocanman welcome to the speedies thread...well blend edges...when you use a wacom
you can set the opacity to pen pressure then you can blend the colors using pen pressure and
alt key for the color picker. You can merge the colors together then. It works pretty good.
I'm joining the sketchgroup the last couple of days so no time for speedies right now...but I'll come back;) maybe tomorrow
cheers

I might also shift the whole image a very little to the left because it's almost too centered now. But i love the textures and colors. Nice work

Ok so mabey it is not as good as alot of you , but I am not good at fast work. SO this is a pencil drawing scanned in then painted. It is of a dragon, I was not able to get the Lightning correct, as well the "orb" seems to lack a bit of luster. Howevre I do like the way his body turned out. I could pick it apart I guess, but in 30 min or less this is what I came up with.

Still messing around with painter... couldnt really get brush textures going in photoshop or painter so experimented with digital watercolor. :) Only thing I hate about painter is sometimes you struggle getting the brushes to work like you want them to.
quick one (roughly 30mins):

thnx zng-Y
FoulSoul I often use some custom brushes with random structure and paint the basic colors for the bg first. I paint also some textures in painter randomly and then I experiment with
layermodes sometimes. The brushstructure you see in the painting below is from painter.

Aah.. so you use brushes that put down random shapes etc.. gotta experiment some more. By the way... your speedpaints are brilliant, like this last one is a complex scene but put down on canvas with minimum effort. I swear you must be cheating somehow...

Anyway, I just got a new Wacom Tablet (I3 9x12) for Christmas and have decided I want to start doing some painting in Photoshop with my free time. Here is a quick "study" of some carrots I did. Just experimenting with the brushes and trying to familiarize myself with the program. This is a study for a Joan of Arc type painting maybe with a futuristic twist. Done in Painter 8 I used a reference for it. Around an hour. Got frustrated trying to paint dishevelled hair so here it is.

Thanks Tadbit !
Stoo - I know it doesn't look like it from my stuff but the works of Carlos Huantes and Simon Bisley have played a huge part in helping me to learn how to create a palette for skin tones. I haven't been brave enough yet to use blues, greens and yellows to the extent that they have to create a fleshy feel but it got me looking at the tones in a different way. A lot of my stuff had quite a monochromatic feel because I started off with one colour and then either mixed in white or black to lighten or darken it. Recently I've been playing around with adding a variety of primary colours to the mix instead and I quite like the way some of them look. Looking at the way Rembrandt used colour and light has also been a huge influence. I relooked at them recently and was amazed at everything I hadn't really noticed before.

Hi.
All of you, are doing some great paintings. So I've made a speed painting. Painted in Painter and blurred in Photoshop. Took about 2 hours. I used reference. This is my first painting ever with a digitizer, and I know that my painting isn't good. But anyways, one image must be the first though;) But may you all keep up the good work!
Cheers.

pictures. That would help a lot. At the moment your paintings are very monochrome.

thnx tuzz!
johweedee that's the right way! Looking good!
Brutal monk I suggest you the same. Do a lot of photoref paintings...that is a good
way to understand lighting, values, shapes ect. There is no trick in adding details and stuff.
It's all about practice.
thnx swoop! Well it was my 263rd painting. So it has to be better than my old ref pics. ;)
Well but this one was really hard....
I'm sure you will get there soon. Just keep on painting! :)

This was made using Goro's brushes!.. Really nice brushes man.! Thnxs for sharing them! By the way ... your work RULES!
Photo ref. - took me 2 hours - photoshop.
(Cecile) Im new on this too, so Im not sure if there are especific rules for this thread, but I guess is just paint with any digital tablet with any software for not too long! If Im wrong someone correct me!
http://www.rit.edu/%7Emdr6606/wacom/pescador.jpg
thnx zng-Y
hey sempernow looking good! One thing though...the water doesn't look like water...cause
the reflection is blueish while the sky is orange....don't get it. The Water should have almost
the same color as the sky. Well but maybe the reference was already color corrected.
Anyways great work!
Hi cecile! Nice to see you here!
Well Speedpaintings are images painted in a short amount of time like 30min up to 2 hours.
If you paint fast you learn to simplify things and you get better in lighting, values and shapes
ect.
So just join in and post your paintings ;)
I won't do speedies in the next days I guess....cause I'm touching up a speedpaint I did
a few days ago. I want to finalize it ;)
cheers!

Hi Everyone!
i'va made a new speed paint.
It is not finished, but i tried to practise the lightning on it. Is that "good" ?
No ref used. The idea come from the "shoot the bigest one first" or something like that. I will add some fire on it and an other bg.
1,5 hour, photoshop, tablet.

Hi there!
I doodled around a bit in Photoshop CS:
http://www.inetgrafx.at/frontend/downloads/FAILED-REALITY/FR.JPG
On http://www.inetgrafx.at/frontend/ you'll find in the download section a tutorial to this one. It's the FR.WMV - Windows Media File. It's recommended to save target as ...
Just tried out my screen capture software. I know it's very loose, but maybe interesting for you.
The shot isn't planned well, did this stuff more for fun. Don't get confused about the painting velocity. It's speeded up to 400%. 50 minutes painting, 12 minutes the tutorial clip.
@ sempernow: Looks like watercolor.. Nice painting!
@ Brutal monk: Maybe the torso and the hip need some more work.

I think I like the one where the background is in focus better, both really nice though.
that is a tough one johweedee. i think maybe slow transition of two in gif animation will be the best choice! ^^; great work either ways.

Wow wicked pics guys! Too much good stuff to comment on :).
Johweedee - I slightly prefer the one with the background in focus, but I think its ace as a gif file!
I-NetGraFX - Thanks for the video! I love watching how people paint, and it very helpful to see some of the tricks you do. (Well not tricks as such, but the full-image gradients and things).
Shyamshriram - Thats an awesome portrait with really interesting colours. I still don't understand how people pick their colour schemes so well, hope to get to your level one day.
