Cool work guys

Yeoh and ACantarel : you can get rid of that effect with using a slightly longer and fading base brush, and not just points.

This will probably either weird you out or be somewhat amusing... This morning I had a dream of visually (like TV) following EEk the Cat (the Fox Kids cartoon back in the mid 90’s) through a dark college parking lot. With all of the lights outs, he starts by running, in a panic through a couple of streets dividing the lot. A turn here. A turn there. He tries to take a right leading into a construction site. A (security) car, with its headlights out roll in front of him and honks to caution him... Eek of course flips out and all of the sudden a streaks across a field with different buildings of different styles and sizes, that for some reason I knew were a part of the campus. One of them was an obvious sorority building with the usual greek letters and about four or five guys, guarding the front.

Eek ends his run by falling off a cliff of sorts, make of red brick. He quickly flies past "Prince Charming" (or a guy that looks like a prince charming out of a Disney flick), who happens to be falling down the cliff himself. Eek disappears and I follow the prince until he's abruptly stopped in mid fall by a gorgeous blond. (I forgot what she was dressed like, but I assumed she was a princess. She had a more modern look.) They had a romantic moment and kissed. Soon after, I follow her down towards the bottom. Once we were there, she laughs mockingly, as her clothes rip apart from around her body (more or less like the Hulk or the red-head from Gen13) and transforms into the fat, yellow, beak-faced freak that inspired the 1 hour speed paint you see below. Then she began to dance...

Ok, So I been using my wacom about a month today, and this is my latest. I made it for the DSF forum ("My Pet" theme) and it was suposed to be done in 20 minutes insted I ended up getting lost and fiddleing for about an hour with it, so its still really quick.
Made with PS and Wacom.
Hope you like it and I would be happy to hear what you think!

So I've been looking thru this thread the past couple days and damn! You guys are such an inspiration, thought I'd try and start getting some stuff out. Just realized how helpful setting pressure transparency is (thanks Goro brushes!)

The proportions are all sorts of off but this is an idea I had in my head for a while so I thought I'd give it a whirl

about 45min.

My next try will focus on better anatomy, perspective and seeing if I can't figure out textures

Any crits from you guys would be fantastic. Also if there are themes, if you could give me heads up on how that works.

Hey Gord, like the first one really well.

Man, still don't get this color thing.
If I start with a background color, then I'm just stick to this specific color all the time and can't find any other color variation, that would make the picture a bit more vivid...
I mean, sometimes I like some dull colorscheme, but not on every pic.

Whats the best way to start out speedpainting? should i have some ref and make some of it up? SHould i be painting over a pic like i see samson did recently in the daily sketch (trees in the samurai one - your work rocks my world too samson and some of u others its just he put over the oncontenence barrier!). And do you work on layers to keep ur crisp edges, or do you jus adjust on layers? or are you jus sooooooo good that i cant learn from ur techniques yet cos im too n00b?
any websites.tutorials/tips/tricks/brush advice/anything at all i can get from you? Geez. Ill start posting speedpaints soon. SO INSPIRING! OMFG!:eek::buttrock::applause:

there are some impressive speed paints here x___x

Latetly i've been having some problems building a composition that makes sense in my digital painting. I keep concentrating in a specific spot, and make it super detailed while the 99% of the paint is still just sketched, when i zoom out im completly lost and sometimes its hard to do the same exact thing i didnt in that spot, to the whole image.

So basicly i need to get some speed paints done, with a few strokes, get some shapes and a general look of the final image.

since i never did speed painting, i really dont know how you guy get these amazing paintings with only a few strokes. Can i have some quick tips on how to start the speed paints?
the thing that bugs me the most is that, some of these speed paints are way better then my final ones xD The lighting, the shapes, they are all so gorgeous x___x

check out the artistic anatomy forum around here. There's loads of information and - more important - plenty of opportunities to improve your anatomy in open workshops, sketchathons or your own dedicated anatomy thread.

All of this goes with endless feedback by people who know their shit...:scream:

And it has references, too.

woox > try to block out the entire piece with a big brush first, then only detail the parts of the image that you want the viewer focused on. If you nail the lighting in the initial blocking with the big brush, everything else should fall into place. Don't worry too much about how it looks or how long it takes... have fun and do as many as you can, analyse what works and you'll see improvements quickly :).

Samsonsreaper : as I said on CA, his is one of your best imho (if not the best).. I would really liek to see this one fixed and worked a bit longer than your usual stuff :) (it's a cool exercice to alternate speed paintings and more polished illustrations... Working longer makes you think and have to solve some problems you usually avoid in speed paintings)

Thanks for the feedback Vahn!

vyse-soa - nice work - good work on the lighting/colour.

MV - that last one is totally mindblowing - just like being in a big screen theatre, surround sound and all. (saved to my 'inspirational works' folder - hope u don't mind)

This kind of workshop thread is very productive...and grows really fast!

here is a env 3 hours painting, and I am happy 'cause I was inspired.
I've paint the flying ship in 30-40 minutes and time remaining was devoted to the background and render...

hi

this is my first speed-paint...

Made it, after watching the speed-painting-tutorial by swoop (reflection-design.dk)

After these great techniques i started to build my own...

His influence is noticeable but i tried to give the image my own style...

Hope you all like it

Be kind...itīs my first speed paint...and the first image in painter, that i am proud to show.
But it is sure, that there will be more to come

I watched this video tutorial lately, telling me that I should draw with BIG brushes before going into smaller ones for detail.

Hey, Deracus and Gord: Thanks for comments! Keep your good work comming!
Dreacus: I think Dekus is using the linetools in Photoshop for straight lines.

I Have a WACOM Intonius 3 Question, you can lift this plastic sheet on it, I thought You should be able to put a photo or drawing under it if you wanted to sketch some tracing, but the plastic sheet is not transparent?
