其实画这个图也没怎么多想 因为毕竟是抱着速写的心态画的 有满多东西都是临时想到

Wow wow, 2 great pages
Thanks guys, I'm flattered you think the airship is wallpaper material. I was a bit disspointed with it because the abstract shapes it was cut from were much more interesting. I'm yet to figure out how people like Viag and Sparth render over their shapes without painting them out.
Unfortunately, I don't usually work large... starting at 1280 and cropping as I go for composition. But you guys have inspired me to go for 2k from the start from now on! :)
Another day, another airship:

Hi people,
This one Based on one of the best sexy dream that I had ever, it was just few days ago in the afternoon I came from work and I just slept for 2 hrs, but I sow the longest dream of this type in my life. She was awesome I couldn’t really make the face exactly same, she even had one of my favourite haircuts. The perfect women lol (sin city) Oh btw the positions was also different from the one that I saw.
Some might find it stupid or bad to draw such a thing, but I enjoyed that:D
Hope you like it,
Reza

Xillion > that's a cool pheonix, it doesn't look like a chicken at all :)
davespen > really dig that tarzan one... nice bold colors
Trunks > you have an idea of lighting, so keep practicing and doing refs :). Maybe some study on light/shadow relationships too (ie. Warm light = cool shadows and vice versa). Instead of many strokes like pencil shading, you might try blocking out in big flat colors first, and then shading lighter and darker depending on how the surfaces turn. Take my advice with a grain of salt though, I'm not art schooled or a 2D pro... someone else's advice could work better. Keep practicing! :)

note that on the side of the pictures, your soooo stupid by posting up those

Dile,
Let's keep the speedpainting thread friendly :D If you feel that an artist is "borrowing" artwork or copying, I'd suggest linking to the original image. It's a sure-fire and passive way to put an undeserver in his/her place.
As for copying style, well...that's how many of us learn. I'm also a fan of Sparth, and I'd rip off his style in a heartbeat if I could just figure out how :P
Dekus, I enjoy seeing your work, but if's there's more to the story than what we see at first glance (ie, reference material based on other concept art), please include a reference.
Keep posting, everybody, this thread always inspires me. In fact, I think I'll attempt a Sparth ripoff, right now...using Goro's brushes. All ideas copyright me.

WTF are you talikng about?? Who is this sparth???? Never heard of him!!!
I NEVER rip anyones works and if i would like someones design i would ask him first!! :P
My works are totally designed and rendered by me!
And the avatar is mine.. because i actually DREW it years ago! if you want to see the original scan i can show you.. :P
So your either talking to the wrong person or that sparth is the thief!

If so... read the description... as i said there.. the guy who had this avatar had no information/contact info in his Profile. And ive asked if someone would knew him, to notify me... :)

yo grab paper and a drawing untencil go to ur computer and image search anything you want to be able to draw better at. then just copy it, i know its not as much fund as creating your own picture in your head, but this will help you grasp what things actually look like.

hehe.. no offence, but its a bit hard to understand what your saying..
I grab a paper and a drawing.. and then go to my computer.. and search?
if you mean how do i work.. i sketch from my head, render my sketches by myself, withouth any reference pics.. i dont copy anyones work or anything.. i want to do all by myself.. i dont even look at real nature.. its all from my head ;)
or what did you mean..?
ooh.. wait.. i think i know what your talking about.. about the last pic i posted.. well.. that was just a quick sketch.. i guess i could find a reference pics to make it better.. but it was just about the idea.. ;) Thanks anyway..

sorry i have bad english adn grammar.. because im a teenager.. by "drawing utencil" i mean pen or pencil anything to draw with.
you said you have no idea how to draw people, so look at one and draw it. this will help you draw them better. after you do enough drawings of people from references it will be easier to draw them from your mind.
i hope i made it a little clearer

SuperMuscle: hehe.. yes i know.. you cant draw stuff before you even actually saw one.. (well.. you can always make your own stuff like spaceships and all..)
If i really want (or wanted) to draw people i would draw them... but im not that interested in people.. im more into design and visual appearence of vehicles and stuff..
Thanks anyway.. ;)

Awesome ! A punk teddy bear ! ... Now I want one too.
Thanks LoteKK :). On your first one, you may get more depth pushing the trees further into the background by increasing their value/fogginess (like the distant figure). Right now the foreground figure and treeline have the same value, and are reading as the same depth... unless I'm totally wrong and those aren't trees, but are actually planter boxes on the wall the guard is standing on.
That last page was awesome. Andyonahill, I love your environments. I have to learn how to pull back the viewpoint like that, I'm always too close.

amazing...

07-28-2006, 01:06 PM
Dekus, I think Yeoh can achieve such realism because he understands (trough practice, study or talent) how to be consistent with values. however I don't think you're right when you say that he does not have references. Sure there's no such creature to photograph but it is through study and comprehension of reality that you can reproduce, modify and in the end create whatever you want. I'm sure yeoh is, at least, an excellent observer.

Daylight has come, another bloody mission is over. The noble dark elf begins his descent in the underdark, crawling his way back home with the aid of infravision.
theYiffer
07-28-2006, 09:15 PM
I'll have to second Xillion. Once you learn to "see" (or observe) (which I'm still struggling to do), you'll be able to translate what's in your head to what you want to paint in a realistic manner. In other words, when you paint an apple, you need to be able to visualize its shape, volume, texture, color, how the light affects it, the shadows that fall across it, the shadow(s) it gives off, the relationship to its environment, etc. Spend some time staring at something, and study it for a while. Try to dissect it in your head. You'll catch on...
As far as the reference material issue goes, a lot of monsters, demons, etc are inspired by the world around us. (I'm talk bugs, humans, anything mechanical, etc) For example, in one of Boris Vallejo's books (Fantasy Workshop), he mentions that he uses bug photos (which he takes for fun) to inspire allot of the building and rock formations in his paintings. He doesn't paint them directly, but uses the visual information, along with his imagination the render the formations in a realistic manner. I hope that makes some sense...
By the way, Yeoh, you scribble quite well. Very cool!
Now back to my punk theme, the following is a tribute to "the Reject" Shannon Moore (Of ECWWE fame. He looks like a real freak in his on-air vignettes) and Fuge's new found love for punk teddy bears. :buttrock:

That's a nice one andy, again with good context :)
You guys are too kind.
Dekus - what Xillion and Yiffer said is pretty much it. If the values are convincing, everything else will fall into place. That said, the values on that demon aren't fully convincing enough since there was no ref to work from. If you compare it to my Sargent studies, it's a huge difference... clearly, I could do with more study. The real master of this is of course Craig Mullins. It's from his posts at Sijun, I learned that drawing > values > color. I am just (one of the many) inspired by his work.
As for color picking without ref, it's one of the goals of doing studies - to learn how light behaves so you can apply elsewhere. I do have problems picking colors quite often actually. I'm not good at local color and will tend to make things read as reflective.
Here's something super simple since I don't like to post without a paint :D

Yeoh: Very nice! Love the shinyness.
Goro: Do you come up with those scenes before you start painting? or do you just start painting and then listen to the shapes ? I dont get how you guys can see these environments before you paint them  ...
Uh... a storm... I just let the brush do its thing with this one... didnt know where it was going.
http://individual.utoronto.ca/praneeth_space/wave.jpg
thnx fuge. It depends. On this one I just started to paint and listened to the shapes. Sometimes I have a rough environment in my mind and I try to bring it on the canvas. Works in both ways but I love to listen to the shapes ^^

Neat work dekus :). I don't decide beforehand what size to paint... it always gets cropped down.
