Heya. I just progressed a bit again. Not there yet but funny cause I just doodled around before lessons (haven't slept to finish an assignment) and after 15 minutes I had this:
It's far from perfect but probably the first image I identify with. I want to eat my wacom pen now ^_°
Have a nice day!
Argh, fairy came out too mature. Better luck next time...

Like the "mature" fairy.
Couldn't sleep so I did this little 15-20 mins sketch. Tried to use the new painting technique. I like working with it and look forward to develop it further.

toobi, that is amazing, such vivid colors! :) what kind of brush do you use in order to get such clean shapes? just switch opacity to pen pressure on and off? I'm trying to get the technique down and there are alot of questions coming to mind.
I'm trying to fit in over here and be original, but I find it helpful to copy some of you guys in order to improve. I'll just post a link because it isn't really my own drawing. Thanks to audit for the inspiration!
06-05-2006, 01:33 PM
RSP: thanks. the piece above was done with more than 30 diffrent brushes i guess. some are custom, some are self made and others i have from people who shared their brushes on their websites or here on cg. the opacity of my brushes is always set to 100% but combined with pen pressure. i only change the opacity of my layers and sometims set them to multiply, overlay etc. for clean shapes you have to use brushes with hard edges. only in the early beginning of a sketch i use soft edged brushes.
btw in order to improve it is indeed very helpful to get inspired by other peoples work and try to copy some parts.
keep it up,

Here is the cover test for my first graphic novel series which is based on “Shahname” or in English “The Epic of the Kings”. The story content follows a Persian epic called Rostam in different adventures. I’m trying to keep the style of other pages of this comic same as the cover.
Example of 2 pages (you might find the style of script a bit weird and that’s because it is translation of Shahname poem’s which is written 500 years ago)
Also my early sketches for this project are availebel here:
It took me apx:2 hrs
I would be glad if I see your opinions, comments, critics etc under this piece. I think that would be a
good guide for me, as I’m working on my first comic.
Thanks for your visit.

I've recently been hankering to join the Daily Sketch Group, but before I did I felt the need to stop producing fluff that can be identified by the type of airbrush used in Photoshop (i.e. it looks VERY, VERY Photoshopped). So I spent about an hour looking at the the speed paints over here. I
I know who my favourites are consistently now as I'm sure many do who spend regular time here. The consistent factor between them was their ability to build up texture very quickly, something I struggle with hugely. I downloaded Goro's brushes and spent a long time tweaking them. Afterwards I eliminated most of them and started making my own. Today has been something of an epiphany for me.
Here's my first experiment with what remains of Goro's brushes (20-25mins). Cheers, mate :D

Goro this feel is great
06-29-2006, 11:37 AM
Someone was talking about people usually commenting on the same old people, and I agree to some degree, so I'll be kicking myself when I say: Goro - all your stuff is awesome.
Hehe, but with that out the way -
aihanghi: Does the smaller one ride the bigger one? The big one has a very cool feel to it. I'm thinking a warmer version of Shadow of the Colossus, because it has similarly organic/stoney texturing, like some of it grew and other parts were built.
davespen: Perfect mood for that pic.
wanbao: > all eerily brilliant.
ch1nook: I happen to think that's good work for a mouse! Keep at it. And then buy a tablet :D
