You know I've thought about doing that but haven't really investigated what options there are for doing a direct-to-hard drive capture. Can you recommend anything?

I reccomend Camtasia... you can even download a free trail from http://www.techsmith.com/products/studio/default.asp?CMP=KAC-CGoogle
What i do for my videos, in order to get a good size, and still good quality is record at a minimum resolution (despite camtasias warning) of 1280x768 and then after recording, and edition in camtasia studio i just save as AVI. Use the TSCC codec and uncompressed audio for the first step.
Then load up Virtual Dub, and use that to open the video file (is rather large). Under audio select full processing mode, and then under audio select compression. Choose MPEG layer 3 (MP3) compression for audio. Then under video (again full processing mode) select Compression, and select Xvid codec. I use the default settings for the Xvid codec. Then just hit Save As Avi and after a bit you will have a pretty good filesize for your video while maintaining what i say is pretty much perfect quality.
If you need RAR the files, to get them extremely small... i get about 30 minutes worth of drawing on about 20 mb space.. running at real-time speed.
Should you decided to do some videos please consider adding audio explaining steps and tricks, and please dont speed up the video to 800 % like many people do... it's really a shame and less usefull to watch :(
Looking forward to seeing some videos :D

cloud study (i need a great deal of practice on this so maybe expect a few of these )
makes me think it might be nice to set up a few threads sometime with focuses on different excercises in 2d, no time limits, just threads full of people attempts at the specific thing, and their hints on tips on how they got there.
for anyone interested todays fun tool was the smeary wet sponge :D

Hi Guys Nice pic's everywhere!
sempernow: Nice picture, i like the situation of the picture, and the body of the wolf, but the eyes are a bit guggled.
Anyway it's nice.
Goro: Nice pic again ;) as usuall. But i have a little crit .... hmm, the light on the car, the reddish pink on it, a bit too blurry and it is too reddish, i think.
BTW the picture is fantastic, and nice lightning.
Here's my new speed paint, a bit strange style...
I used blending options too, so bit unusuall. But i think not too bad. Hope u like it.

first time on speed paint
,aybe an hours in painter w/ the lights in PS http://img169.exs.cx/img169/9197/biker29wc.jpgPS Anna the perspective looks forces because 3 point perspective gets very distorted near the vanashing points, try spacing them farther apart.

thnxs for the comments brutalmonk. I like the texture of yours (it's something diferent) especially the spider web texture in the background.:)
ransom nice pic too. I like the perspective and color scheme. One minor comment.. the red light from the car behing should strike from the right side of the frame cause it is conflicting with the reflected car of the mirror. (the reflection makes us believe the car is on the right, so.. the red light should also come from the right) anyhow.. great picture..:)
thnx swoop and brutal

Good image, but try and define the ground more.. seems to blend in with the sky.. no real horizon line unless you strain yourself a little.
For example try using a hardedged brush when doing the outline of the landscape...

great one Goro!
i made some painting on the work, tomorrow ill get post the images here, i cant post it now because the images isnt on my computer..
but, here is a little problem im having..
I made the jungle using only airbrush changing the pressure of it and the size, not hard, but it dont looks like real, it dont have a nice texture...
then, i tried to make a draw (ill post the image tomorrow), but, when i was painting i did this ->
i painted the base colors (no light, no shadow)
then used the Dodge/Burn tool to create the shadows and lights, but it looks very ugly, more ugly than the jungle..
so, how you make the painting feel like reality?
can someone explain me that?
thanks,
God bless u all.

Hey there!
Great speedpaints in this thread, I really like your sky HOON.
Yesterday my holidays started, so there is much time to do some paintings. Because i often get depressed when doing a painting taking longer than a day, i tried myself in speedpainting, i hope my paintings count as SPs.
Here is my work, enjoy it:
At first two older paintings i did after watching a football match:
1h Photoshop CS
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v332/mmayrhoferr/crowd.jpg
2h Photoshop CS (I know i forgot the players ;-) )
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v332/mmayrhoferr/stadion.jpg
And here are 3 speedpaints i did today:
1,5h Photoshop CS
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v332/mmayrhoferr/roller.jpg
1h 50min Alias SketchbookPro
I'm still studying how to draw faces, so th proportions of the rest could be a bit off)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v332/mmayrhoferr/frau.jpg
And the last one is some SciFi stuff
50min Photoshop CS:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v332/mmayrhoferr/hangar.jpg
That is all for today :-)

I'd actually like to share my study on technique. It's not so speedy and not so finished but I hope I'd soon be able to do the same in half the time and without reference.
So here it is (the reduced version): 1 hour and a half on painter (soft airbrushes). If i finish it, I plan on colouring it with photoshop.

Hi Goro! I really love your sketches, your technique reminds me of Craig Mullins (he is one of my favourites btw...). Just a question: how do you add those little 'textures' on canvas ? I mean, there seems to be some sort of grain in some spots, and in some other the canvas seems carved. What brushes did you use ? Is it some sort of noise filter ??
bye, E.
goro, that's pretty cool dude!
thnx art2!
Xillion sometimes I use self painted textures I put over the whole painting with different layermodes. Check the tutorials thread in the Daily sketchgroup section of cgtalk.

I went to see 'constantine' and liked very much the main character. The main character will have Keanu Reeves' face in the end.
This is more a WIP than a skecth...but I tend to end things as soon as I begin them so I'm posting it here. What I'm trying to do is learn the secrets of lightning and mood. Suggestions, impressions are welcome.

I WISH I had a tablet, i doodled this in about 15 minutes, experimented for about another 10.. kinda of a first attempt really, using photoshop and a 400dpi el-cheapo mouse, no reference.. it started as a squgle, which became his right eye, and i just had a bit of fun from there

@ 25mins (http://img114.exs.cx/img114/9996/25minphotoshop2.jpg)
Dont worry, im fully aware of its massive errors, it only takes a flipping on the horizontal plane to see how bad it is

I started to make a new robot, but i had problems with the pose, so it took so much time.
More than 30 min for this little drawing.
So i had to make a pose study for my little robot. Plz crit if the pose is not correct.
The basic robot drawing:

Goro , I think the thing I love about your work isn't the suberb visual style and quality (which is amazing), but the fact that each piece looks like it's FOR something. It promotes a real sense of "something is going on here and I want to know more".
