Title: Chrysalide - 3D Animation
Name: Yann Bertrand & Damien Serban
Country: France
Software: 3ds max, combustion, motionbuilder

We have finally completed the "Chrysalide" project!
Chrysalide trancribes, through three chapters, different states of the Butô dance. Mixing 3D animation and film, Chrysalide contrasts this carnal, visceral dance, and the coldness of 3D with its architectures, polygons. In between organic and digital textures.

The film is part of an installation project mixing the three chapters of the film with sculptures, drawings, monotypes and photographs. The date of the exhibition has not been chosen yet.
A premiere of the chapter IKI will take place in Paris, France, december the 2nd.

For more informations please visit our website at :
www.youchuu.com (http://www.youchuu.com/)

wow... extremely impressive work here!

the imagery, editing, animation, concept, aesthetic, etc is all extremely cool. very interesting. would love to be able to see the entire project and installation at some point.
some aspects of it actually remind me a bit of Elias Merhige's film Begotten (http://imdb.com/title/tt0101420/).

very much looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks guys !

I never saw Begotten, will check it out.

We will probably end up putting the whole animation online at some point, but because of some festivals' regulations, we can't right now. We don't want to ruin our chances of getting the film to be seen because of that.
As for the installation it's obviously more complicated to make it happen but we're considering a few options to show it in England, Germany and possibly USA after the premiere in Paris.

This film looks soooo neat.
The images of the unsmoothed man in convincing motion are very powerful. I think they will shock and awe audiences whether or not they know the first thing about CG.
Im waiting to see it somewhere.

Stunning imagery. Closest piece I've seen to meaningful art on these forums.

Try to keep the website updated with any festival dates - I would love to see this if it is shown in the UK.

WOW dude that is amazing never seen something like that. The atmospere has something unnatural. It seems that that it plays in space or something like that. And nice music. Everything is perfect. Good job

Hey thanks for the comments (and upping the post back :D) ! I'm glad some more people got to see it that way.

mattmos : Don't worry, the website will be updated with festivals info as soon as we have them. But don't expect to see it in UK in a festival anytime soon. We do have a few UK fests on the list, but their deadline being in a long time, we're concentrating on sending the film to fests to which the deadline for submission is sooner... Anyhow, as the UK fests are in a little while, we may have something else planned for London... But don't want to say too much until it's a done deal :wise: . So to answer your question, yes the website will be updated frequently !

Thanks !

ooh. Very interesting this. So rare to see art of this caliber around here. The way you have used the rawness of CG and not tried to make it photoreal is inspiring and fresh.
I'd love to see the full films, I'll keep my eyes open for your upcoming UK screenings.
I wasn't really aware of buto before this, but you have definetly raised my interest.

Oh crap !

Thanks for pointing the missing links... this is what you get for hosting the files on a friend's server... it's incredibly fast, but suddenly the files don't exist anymore

I have edited the post with (I hope) working links for the trailers. Sorry for that...

And I don't know if the question concerning Peter Rose, on the "_grau | experimental 3d animation" was intended for me or for rs3dcg... But I don't want his post to turn into a private conversation ;) So in case it was intended for me, I didn't know Peter Rose, but I googled him, and now I know a little about him... It seems as he still works, and does some digital editing now (or at least he still did at the end of the 90s).

The film has been sent back into post-production with the help of the franch producer LPA. (http://www.la-parisienne-anim.com/)

In the meantime, the film not being finished, we stopped everything, from trailers to website, to festivals.

Thank you all for your support, we'll let you know when the film is over.

Best regards to all of you,
Damien
