PRMan is an amazing piece of software, but at $5,000 per CPU commercial liscence, and 1,250$ per CPU educational liscence, this software is WAY out of my grasp :( perhaps the standalone version of brazil will fit my needs when it ships.

Anyhow, kudos on the interview :bounce:

WOW. renderman is awesome! but i agree with array about the price aspect, i'm having trouble getting enough money to buy lightwave, and renderman ($5000) is just out of reach for the average artist.:thumbsdown:

PotatoHead- dont forget that the liscence is per CPU, so if u have a quad processor motherboard, be ready to pay $20,000 USD. This must be a HUGE burden for movie houses like WETA which have to pay for several thousand PRMan liscences.

There's actually quite a bit more to using PRman than just the price. It really takes a certain amount of understanding of the RIB pipeline. There are some great tools out there to allow 3d packages to work with PRman, but it's still a very laborious process. But the reward is tremendous flexibility through RIB and the easy to use shader language as well as the benefits of the REYES architecture (a la PIXAR patents - fast high quality motion blur and displacement).
