I can not draw well but it helped in getting some direction and idea's flowing.

I want the right camera shot and angle. How much detail I will get into the buildings inside are going to go from this point.

I am not sure how much detail I should put into the colonies interior. If it will be seen or not. I will not know untill I start to light it so for now i am going to continue with the details.

Wanted to start to texture as I think about what to do inside the dome and not kill time. Also, I want to add a ship or something outside the dome, but what? More parts and pieces of things. I was thinking a broken down vehicle of some sort.. Some machine parts. I hope it comes to me as I do a little work on something else.

I added some more details. I wanted to see if I could light it so the inside of the dome, its details would come out right. Still need to fine tune the shadows.

It's coming along. Are we on the dark side of the asteroid or is the sun up? Check out these two examples from famous movies as inspiration...One does not suspend our disbeleif while the other one does. (1 (http://cosmicorigins.com/sci-fi-treasures/chapter1/pages/2001-moonbase_1.htm)) (2 (http://cosmicorigins.com/sci-fi-treasures/chapter1/pages/thousand-leagues_3.htm))

Keep up the good work.

Good work so far, you are making progress. 2 points,
1. It sounds like you are thinking hard about it, but Lighting will a key area in this scene, it will make or break it. As you said, lighting of the interior needs to be right, and also the craft as a whole. You don't want to loose the details of the far away objects becaue they are a long way away... so for me these would need to be well lit.
2. Textures on the ship will make a huge difference, it sounds like you only have a temporary texture for now, but put as much detail as you can in the ship surface... cargo hatches, maintenance hatches, wear and tear, damage, etc...

hope this helps

I have spent a good moment looking at the 2 images.
The first image, detailed, interesting, But almost to well detailed.
It is hard to say but I think (2) holds me thinking more about it and what it is, where, what?
Keeps me asking.

As to what and where this scene is? I do not know. The story usualy comes to me at the end if I am doing it by just pulling it out from my head. I am so acumsomed to getting drawings, CAD layouts and or basic layout of some sort. I do not do well normally just comming up with a random idea even if given a starting concept of a scene. I hit a point when I need to step away, and get back to it later. Good time for me to settle into work.

BTW thanks

I do not know if i am going to put in some sort of ship. In my sketch it looked to be like a filling of space but at this point there is a space station that i have not started to detail and the post effects will highlight that alot. Same with the dome. The planet might get some post effects and something interesting happen to it. Why I never liked to sketch things out. Feel like BobRoss at times and change things on the fly. lol Go with something then put a big tree down the middle of it.

If I put in the ship, it might take away from some things. Get a little cluttered?

Getting a better mix of light in the dome, and contrast and detail outside.

Ok the lights look a little... cheesy.. But i would like to have some kind of becon, lights.

The planet being hit like that? Not a good idea? back to the way it was? I like the idea of not knowing what is doing it. At the same time it does take away from things.

hi there1 Cool beam effect! Well done. But in your scene I think it would look much better if it was thinner. About other things I don't have my opinion yet. Simply make more tests:thumbsup:

arturro, you are right, should be thinner. was trying to get it that way but the detail was not comming out right. But i saw that also.

It was pointed out that the beam was a little too large. So I did a little shrinking. Maybe smaller?

I enjoyed this chalange. Great fun. Learned alot and tried a few new things. Can always work on it and work on it and do more because it was just an idea turned into this. But time comes and goes. Thanks for the challenge. :)
This being the first that I have finished. Now i just have to figure out the FTP thing.
