Title: Riis, Lost In His Thoughts
Name: Pierre Droal
Country: France
Software: Painter
Hi,
Here is a portrait of Riis, a character that I created for a short story I wrote 3 year ago. Riis is the man who saved his people from being destroyed by their dying sun, by organizing a great exodus. However he was so unconfident in himself, that he never recognized the historical role he played.
I wanted a character that looks like human, but with different ancestry ( human's ancestors are apes, but Rii's ancestors are saurians).
This pict is totally digital, from the first sketch to the final rendering.
Tell me what you think about it, I hope you will enjoy !

amazing details in the texture. I love your paint style, and how the textured background compliments the textures on the character. The lighting is fantastic, and makes your character very beleivable, great work.
Really well done work. I like the idea, the details and the colors. You have a good hand in digital drawing.

You made an axellent work here, specially with the expresion of the chaacter....mmmh your story is mesoamerican inspired? because your character reminds me of the Fish-men from Mayan mithology, also...Sun's destroying the world..it seem mesoamerican to me ^^
Anyway, I think you've done very well. kepp in the good work

The character is great, but I don't think the background works well, specially the upper left.

Thanks for your reactions !!!
- Andreasrocha : I see what you mean about left side of the background, but I'm OK with the right side. So I will improve that part of the picture, by softening the texture.

Hi,
Here's a new version in blue. I think it's better than the first one, which was too flashy. I've softened the background, too disturbing.
I hope someone will see it...

I find this character stunning. Really, it's on the front page of CGTalk right now and I find my eyes going back to it everytime I come to it. The facial expression and description you gave really inspires me... I see this altruistic, selfless and wise character that I just instantly love. This is up with my favorite works of all time, I would instantly put it next to "Girl and Monster" on the front of Expose'. I'll continue to check this out, beautiful job!

This is really nice, but could be even better if the ( hat ? ) thing on his head had highlights the side facing the light.
To be honest, right now the thing on his head looks very much like a wool cap ( like a robber would wear over his head.)
It would really make the image 'top notch' if it were fixed.
The painting style is superb !

is your short story available to read? You could make an illustrated short story, filled with these types of paintings, it sounds like an interesting idea.

Thanx for your reactions, everybody !!!
-Vegan : the hat, it's his hair ! The texture of african hair is close too wool, as you said, so it doesn't catch much light...
- Gordonm : thanx, man : Renaissance painters have great influence on me, because I truly admire them. Vive Titien et Rembrandt ! :scream:
- Andreasrocha : It shows that your remark was totally right ! Thanks. :D
- PCcollier : it depends on the story, but it's possible. In the past, people followed tyrans, psychopats or crooks...
- Antilles&Cypher : I'm reworking on my short story, and I prepare a book mixing pictures like this one and text... Hope it will be edited one day...
-dmg3d : thanx ; for the movie, it would be a pleasure to make it, if I had 100 millions dollars... :D
I'm preparing other picts. Later !!!

Lovely piece! There are some great textures going on here, almost rock like. For some reason it reminds me of Enki Bilal, of whom I'm a massive fan. Good work!

I think your characters are wonderful as they are indepthly beautiful - not conventionally beautiful. They are how life should be - different.
Majestically humble!
