im having a problem with rendering this scene im working on. i havent found a relevent topic thru a board search:

ive got a scene where the camera is looking through a window, watching a rocket ship speed away. the window has minor reflections and is transparent, while the rocket has its thrusters firing (a fire particle effect flowing from its rear). i need raytracing on to be able to achieve the reflections of the interior behind the window, but whenever i render with raytracing on, the particle effect does not appear in the render.

is there a setting/attribute/something else im missing that will allow me to render with raytracing and still see the fire?

thanks in advance for any help!

Are you using software rendered particles?
Those would be Cloud(s/w), Blobby(s/w), and Tube(s/w). Make sure you're using software rendered particles if you want to get them with the software renderer. If you're using sprites or streaks, you have to render them in the hardware renderer and composite them back in.

If you're using software rendered particles and it's still not showing up... then here I'm a bit foggy as to what is not showing up...

If it's just the REFLECTIONS not showing up, then go to the particle object, go to the render stats, and turn on "visible in reflections" and "visible in refractions". These are off by default, I assume as a time-saving measure.

If it's the entire particle system not showing up through this window, then try increasing your ray depth and the amount of raytracing. It may be that you're simply not having your rays hit the particles at all.

I agreee with Mr.WhiteRabbit.obj. However why don't you comp everything? A layer for the window, and a layer for your particles?
So you wouldn't need to tweek yourrendering so as to have the exact look of both elements.
