Hi all, I modeled this Lion of a Plaza in Budapest. It is rather high poly, allmost 100000, it took me 2 weeks, please sendyour comments. :wavey: Greetings from Hungary :wavey:

looks pretty good, looks like a real statue. only thing is the text below the lion. there seems to be a "caved-in" section on the front wall, and the text doesn't look like it follows the wall pattern.
nice work.

Excellent modelling (would be nice to see a couple of more pics from other angles) very realistic detail on the lion and also in the worn stone that he is made from.

Great job, although the lighting looks a bit drab but I guess that adds to the type of atmosphere the statue is depicted in but it does make it look like a composited flat image though.

I think I'd like to see a wireframe; I'm not tottaly convinced that's 3d... :hmm:

hmm... maybe some other angles ? or higher-res pics ? i must say i doubt its a render.. if it is, take it as a compliment :curious: ;)

Hey, thanks for the compliments. Here is the WIREFRAME. This is Lidhtwave 7.5

Tereshias

Sorry for the quality of the image. I had to lower its resolution to be allowed to post it (because of the 50k limit).

Tereshias

And here it is a render from another angle.

Erm... that's not even in the same pose. Nor is the hair the same...

Are you sure this is the right wireframe?

Why don't u simply admit you are modelling that lion using those photos as picture reference?
The wireframe model does not match at all those rendering.

Guys you must be blind, are you serious when you say it's a photograph? It's obviously a render.

It must have been a pain to deal with all those cp's, I think it's a great job, but I have to agree the other two renders look very different from the first photo... Must be a perspective thing.

But after all I guess he deserves praise for making something that fooled people :D

look the frotn leg doesnt match with the render...........l think me too is a fake and its a photo not a render of your modeling

derelict
08-27-2002, 04:19 PM
I think what he is trying to say is.. "I will be modelling the lion base on this photograph. Please comment on the photograph like what i should do and should not do. Period."

Then came the second post. "wallah, here it is... my very first modelling base on the pix. Period."

Then came another post " Here is another angle on the lion photograph... any comments? Period."

...He did mention he is bad with his english...

Edit: or was i dreaming. Must be working too hard...

I hope you are being sarcastic.

He is obviously trying to pass a photo off as a model.

Look at the wireframe he provided. The hair doesn't match - it doesn't even come close to the level of detail in the statue. The forelegs aren't in the same position. The head is obviously different. I could go on and on.

Pedro

Dimitrius:
Well I agree the level of detail in the wireframe does not match the images, but I don't know lightwave so I figured it must be some shader and textures or something.

I was basing my comments on the background - the clouds are the same in both images.

I do agree that there are discrepancies. Perhaps it's two different models.

I hope the guy returns and explains this whole thing and offers an animation (hell, even a 5 frame animation to prove it's the same model).

( I still bet they're not photographs tho :D )

AJ
08-27-2002, 09:51 PM
Definitely a photo...

The model's completely different.

Simple way to solve the arguement - re-render the last picture at 5 times the size - or if that makes it over the 50k limit, do a crop on say the head. But from that angle.

Oh what am I saying! It's a photo!

Show us more of the model itself when you've finished it though... ;)

the hair in the "PIC" is much longer as in the wire, so post a real Picture of this statue, best would be a Picture with humans or more other buildings. So we could see that this statue ist a model and not only a PIC

OMG! We are building a second tower to get into
heaven! But now! God gave us diffrent languages
and Tereshias doesn't understand what you
say and we don't understand what he says :D

The so called "renderings" are definetly PHOTOS,
cause the wireframe doesn't match the "renderings"
espiaclly the hair is completly diffrent.
Forget about this thread, you are talking with a
wall, he just ignores all posts because he doesn't
understand a f***ing word :)

JuRrAsStOiL

because the first picture looks realistic and
very detailed, but no one is sure if this is
a photo or a rendering ... so, all mixed up = 3 stars :)

PureFire

based on the wireframe he posted i would say its either a photo or not his work.

There isnt a single resemblance from the picture to the wireframe, even if the lion was in a different pose. Sorry.

yijia2003

The lion is excellent, but I think you can optimize the background
a little, just as add some fraction to it,especially at the second scene

08-28-2002, 05:08 AM
now im gonna start by saying Tereshias that wireframe of the lion is very nice, and im gonna give u the benefit of the doubt.

but i dont understand a few of the 'renders/photos' like they al have same sky yet in one of them there is 'mid day' lighting,

are these so called 'rendering' your photos edited in ps etc for your reference ?

I think it goes like this. The guy has been on holyday somewhere and have taken some nice pictures of a lionstatue. Then he figures it could be fun to see if he could get away with making a bit fun of people here at CG-talk.. He takes the photos in Photoshop and remove the background and replaces it with a common "3d-in-progress" backdrop instead.. he even makes some wireframe to support the photos..

You can also try to compare the base the lion is lying on.. it's not the same at all.

What can I say.. it made me laugh :buttrock:

Hey guys, I`m Hungarian.

It would be the best, if Tereshias would post a render image of the lion, and a wireframe of the same position.

Anyway, I think it maybe a joke on part of Tereshias, that shows completely the behavior of the forum. Some people always find bugs even on a photo. Once I`ve seen on a forum where my friend posted a photo of his girlfriend, that some folks showed "obvious" mistakes on the modell, and texturing. The best complain was about the eyes....

Anyway I`m not convinced until he posts the necessary evidences

Keep on!

I'm pulling my hair out! Is it a photo? is it a render?! Why would they ALL have the same background?!

I say it's a render, it's just at different resolutions, like he played with the camera position...

And about the tail in the first image, it does show up in later renders, but... it's on the other side of the lion???

What the hell? Someone spank this guy into rendering an animation based on that first image, the one people say it's a photo.

the_jonas
08-28-2002, 06:26 PM
its gotta be a photo, or he could have shown an old wireframe by mistake or so :p, naaahhh :surprised

but if i done that wireframed model by himself, why not make it more look-a-like the photosculpture then!??!!?!.

and the same bg, thats also a little strange. hmm an animation is required :p

This is actually an interesting thread. I did some research about the statue. Belows is an excerpt I copied from a tourist site.

---

The lion statues at either end of the bridge (designed by János Marschalkó in 1850) are symbolic of the joining of the two halves of the city, the lions' paws clamped into the banks and holding the linking bridge in place.

Marschalkó, according to legend, prided himself on the realism of the lions, until a little boy pointed out they had no tongues. The artist was so upset he drowned himself in the river.

---

I don't know if this was the author of this threads intent, but he has taken on the role of Marschalko, and we as critiquers have assumed the role of the little boy finding faults in the realism.

Anyway here are some reference photos.

Hiya,

I know this statue well. These are photographs (except the standing one, but the colors aren't matching). Anyway. If he makes a pictore from top view in a not perspective view (igen, igen, felülr?l! - yes, yes from top!), than I will believe it is a render. (Because it is a bit high to climb up there... :) )

Hm. Strange enough that I get this as the difference between your most recent post and the one from yesterday.
I simply rescaled the newer one of the images and placed it atop the old one. Bingo. You did however change the size of the sky behind, that's it. If you had been working on it there would have to have been some changes, agreed?
