If this already exists, please tell me how...

I'd like to be able to set up a Material Tag, and have that tag apply to MULTIPLE Polygon Selections rather than one per tag...

yes... I don't have the manual in front of me so I can't tell you where it's detailed.

Look for "Set Selection" in the Object or Structure Pulldowns. You can use it in both polygon and points mode.

Grey not positive whether it will work or not but what if you use a restriction tag set all selection names at 0 strength and use poly selections as opposed to points?......does that make sense? :hmm:

that's for Bones only Kiwi, at least. I don't think you can tag a tag.

In the texture tag there's a "resttrict to selection"

I wish there were a way to have multiple selections...

Well I don't know if this helps, but any polygon can be a part of more then one selection set. That way you can make a new set containing all of the polygons that you want to share the same texture, and the other selections that contain those polygons are still valid. I don't know if I am making any sense. If not tell me and I'll try to explain more.

yes, thanks Brandon, I'm aware of that.

That's part of the issue especially when we're dealing with things like Human skin, where selections can be overlapping.

The problem comes when you have so many overlapping selections that require the same texture material and must interact with other materials.

It would be a much simpler thing to mix those materials using fusion rather than having way to many material tags to manage.

One single selection could end up with three or more tags, with identical tags applied to other selections...

Am I making sense?

Yeah I can see what you mean. All of the sudden you could end up with an ungodly number of tags. Maybe in V8 with the new smartpointer tech some of these issues will be addressed.

So do I :D

The only other thing I can see to solve the issue would be something similar to what's in the restriction tag...
