I'm just curious about Goerners linedrawing techniques in Photoshop on the second Gnomon DVD. Does he uses the "shift"-key, while he paints that long straight lines or does he paint them manually?

He used brushes without pressure sensitive variations (For lines in especial).
So its possible to use that hint or not. I've heard about, that you should avoid the linetool in paintings. Maybe some one could tell me more about it ?

Personally I feel more comfortable with linedrawings in Painter. Why? Because I can freely rotate my canvas! Photoshop does it not (yet, hopefully).

PS: I posted it in the general discussion forum, but didn't got any response.
Maybe it's too photoshop related. Hope to get some answers. Thanks in advance!

Im kind of confused about this post. I havnt watched that dvd but you say he used a non pressure sensitive brush and painted straight line. Im not seeing why you would not just use shift, maybe if you were using a wacom with a pressure sensitive brush but maybe im missing your problem....

You can do straight lines on any angle in photoshop if you place one point, then shift-click to the next area (or shift-pen).

Thanks for your reply!

I've dropped some fast lines.
As you see my prefered direction is given.
There's a slight difference between the lines, but you'll even make it out in a thumbnail which lines are digitally created and which ones are not.

Straight lines are better painted at zoomed out levels, but he goes all over the screen.
It's hard to make it out in DVD and I think he mentions nothing about it.
Either he is that good at perfect linepainting or he uses hints and guides, especially for long lines in any direction !? That's my confusing question.

Personally I prefer freehanded lines.
Maybe they feel more artistic, loose and natural.
Are these reasons, why to avoid linetools?

Yes, I do use a Wacom and I don't know yet how to cope with a mouse in Photoshop.
Ever tried to paint manual circles, etc. ?

Thanks for your help!
