Latest Update: Concept Sketch: Mechanic Watching towers

"In the blooming day, people gather around the Mechanical Watching Towers, to get a better view from above the walls of the waterlily leaves. The watching towers are semiorganic machines that resemble a cross between a lizard, a giraffe and a grasshopper, with a small balcony on the top of a long articulated neck. The neck is capable of movin up and down to get into the balcony."

"The royal family stares at one of the most spectacular sightings in the entire universe: the blooming of giant waterlillies (Nenuphar) on spring"

This is my first contest... so i gathered courage and submitted my sketch.

We'll see...

Nenuphar city is the head of a vast Empire of Kind and goodhearted dynasty of sapiontes (a race that one was human, but evolved through genetic engeneering and deep knowledge o the spirit).

The sapiontes are Master of genetic engeneering, and build their cities, weapons, furniture, and almost everything with gentically manipulated animals, plants or even bacteria.

The city of Nenuphar is built on platforms of gorgeously large waterlillies, floating on Nenuphar bay. Once every year, the giant waterlillies blosoms, begin to bloom... a sighting so amazing as to drop the jaws of everyone who stares at it.

The royal family presides the holiday that this day announces from the balcony of the Royal palace, with the rays of the two suns lighting through the giantic petals the size of a small village.

The whole city stands upon huge waterlily leaves. Just another rough sketch...

Pablo,

The idea sounds nice , but I think you should have the lilies bloom like once every fifty years . An event that happens once every year may not be an epic moment. Just a thought, maybe somehow you could make it more epic like. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.Nice sketches you have.

Good luck with the contest.

It's ok... and fits perfectly with the "two suns" thing (a classic)... In my first concept I thought the Blooming to occur in the "true spring" day, but i didn't knew what does that mean... so here it goes:
___
"Once every 49* years, the two Suns reach the Equinox point at the same time, marking the beginning of 49 days of joy, so the leyends say... truly or not, it points also the so called "Blooming of the Nenuphar Blossoms", when the giant waterlilies of the bay spread their huge petals the size of a small village... their petals refracting and scattering the light** of the two suns over whole bay, creating a sighting unrivalled in the whole galaxy."
___
Thank you!

* (7 x 7, for some reason... seems to have some logic)

I want to use a style as far to "traditional-hi-tech-sci-fi" as i can (although i'm not discovering the soda can, i know).

I'm thinking on a very sophisticated society, that pay attention and care for the details. A simple but sophisticated world, with some piece of a renaissance look, with large drapperies, and intincated embroidery.

As the sapiontes are masters of genetic engeneering, they construct and build their world with in a very organic fashion.
I want to get a look half organic/insectlike, half manga/hitech, with that touch of "rennaisance" that i talked before... i know i'm getting into serious troubles (specially for a beginner like me), but i want to face the challenge... so here it is.

i'm making some test layouts with lowres meshes, and i realised that that the camera point of view is critical in this take. It makes a big difference if the closest flower is seen from above or underneath.
If the camera takes the flower from underneath it seems more magnificent and overwhelming, but a lot ov the environment will be lost.

Maybe i should post those test renders, while i model the hires meshes.
