Artist roles and requirements:
We look for certain core skills in an artist. No matter where you fit into the company we still want to meet people who:
Are passionate about popular visual media like games, movies, comics, video clips, etc.
Are comfortable working in a multi disciplinary team
Are comfortable working in a large, fast-paced production environment
You must be able to prove how good you really are. When making an application we require that you supply us with the following:
CV
Portfolio showing off their best work in the following formats. Images: TGA or Jpegs on a CD. Video: VHS PAL tape or DIVX AVI on CD. Code: CD with clearly commented and documented code and compilled plug-ins 3D: Maya (5.0 files preferred) on CD
Please do not send websites, powerpoint presentation, flash or director movies. If total portfolio does not exceed 3 megs in zip format, you may e-mail it.
Senior Artist
Senior artists need to have strong hands-on art skills and are responsable for managing a small team of artists to create game content. Their main job is to co-manage, advise and participate in the content creation process from initial design to finished content, they do this in co-operation with the level designers and concept designers and are the main hub of communication between the artists and these other departments. They have worked on game projects before and have some management experience. They will need to know the process of game content creation thoroughly and also be able to display good social and communication skills. Other aspects of the job include advising the Lead Artist and upper management on project issues and project management. They will also need to be able to train new team members in the processes and techniques of content creation.
Additional Requirements:
At least three years of industry experience and one shipped title in their portfolio.
Bachelor degree (or equivalent) in relevent area (computer sciences or arts)
Strong artistic and creative skills as well as technical insight
Strong communication skills
Good knowledge of game development processes
Experience with project management is preferred
Game Artist
Game Artists create the bulk of all in-game content from characters to levels. Their main job is to create outstanding game art and be able to produce any asset the game might require. They have a broad skill-base and can deal with anything from modeling, texturing, rigging, animation, particles, special effect, lighting and rendering. Other aspects of the job include being able to function as a content specialist, an artist who is able to excell at all the skills and processes required to create a specific type of game content (like characters, vehicles or environments).
Additional Requirements:
At least one year of industry experience
Strong artistic and creative skills as well as technical insight
Broad computer arts skills encompassing every facet of content creation
Broad knowledge of software and techniques
Strong personal portfolio showing off a large diversity of skills, talents and styles
Knowledge of scripting or programming preferable
Technical Artist
Technical Artists will have to tackle the most complex content creation problems and processes, as well as deal with all art specific tool creation requests. Their main job is to work together with the senior artists and specialist artists to create the set-piece events and special effects of the game. They also work with designers and programmers to create games mechanics and with animators to create rigs and animation diagrams. Other aspect of the job include serving as a technical knowledge base for the art team. They are the ones to take onboard new technology from the tech team and help the game team integrate this into the pipeline. Aside from a vast technical knowledge of the software we use, they also need to be able to develop our own tools. Programming or scripting skills are a necessity.
Additional Requirements:
At least two years experience in the film, broadcast or games industry
Strong technical insight as well as good artistic and creative skills
Broad knowledge of software and techniques encompassing every facet of content creation
Excellent technical knowledge of Maya, specifically rigging, scripting, particles, dynamics and other high level maya skills.
Good programming or scripting skills
Good understanding of automating processes and stream-lining art production workflows
Specialist Artist
Specialist Artists trully excel at a certain content creation skills. Their main job is to create top quality, benchmark defining content within their area of expertise. They have a very strong technical knowledge of their chosen area as well as being able to innovate in this field. Other aspects of the job include helping and tutoring game artists to create higher quality content.
Additional Requirements:
At least three years of experience in any professional creative field
Excellent skills within one of the following specialisms: Texturing and shading, Lighting, Animation, Special Effects
Excellent artistic and creative skills and insight
Excellent personal and professional portfolio showing off their specialism
Excellent technical knowledge of software and techniques within their field
Broad computer arts skills encompassing many facets of content creation
