Does anybody know how to model this dice in C4D, should we need some plugin, or pure C4D, especial the cube's edge, how to model it smoothly? Thanks.

I'd use superNURBS-plugin...

that would be a problem even in Rhino... you couldn't automatically fillet the edges.

I'd say you're probably best off modelling it with hypernurbs manually.

Maybe with SuperNURBS you could tighten those middle bits up without affecting the rounded edges....the holes would be a bu*ger though, may have to be booleaned out...

Must we use the SupeNurbs plugin, can't hypernurbs do it?

hypernurbs can do it no problem there, but it will be a little more difficult, I'll see if I can whip somethingup tonight when I return from school.

Yes, HyperNURBS could do it, BUT those holes will be a bu*ger, mainly cos there are different numbers on each side...with booleans this will cause nasty artifacts...probably! Bit of a challenge.

Can't it be done with loft NURBS?

Is bu*ger a swear word?

actualy, I don't think the holes would be too bad.

I think I know how to do it... I'll try tonight.

Okay, had to try. HyperNURBS in a boolean with some connected cylinders (made into poly objects and connected, duplicted etc..) Literally 2 minutes as I am going home now....

Heres a wire frame of the HyperNURBS to give you some idea of where to go. It really is that simple. Of course someone could have a go at extruding the holes instead of booleans......but I'm bored now.....
The cylinder object is actually 8 cylinders connected.....have I said that?

a little different that I would have done it, and I was contemplating modeling the holes rather than booleans, but this is quite nice, thanks for saving me the time of doing this at all, I needed the break.

Kai, I'm not stopping you showing us how to do it properly! To be honest I haven't the time either to be trying to model the holes, I also like to find a quick way of doing things....hihihi...:bounce:

Fastest way to get those round edges:

1. make cube
2. press c
3. make hypernurbs
4. put cube in hypernurbs
5. go to poly mode
6. make inner extrude with very small offset
7. done. ;)

But the cube in question had rounder parts than others! (I think I managed as simply as possible with the rounded corners..) The question now is concerning those holes.....

Well, I got tired of waiting! Here is the quick dice with modelled holes (not exact). Due to the flat surfaces you don't really need to worry how the points are placed so a few inner extrudes, place points in a square, extrude back.....instant round hole!

If anyone wants this scene let me know!

PS - I owe Janine a small appology as her way creates a nice shape for a dice, but would only work if using the boolean method as once cuts are made to create holes the dice becomes too squared and you need to pull points into the possitions I have them in........so we are both right.......:applause: (sorry Janine, you da master, how could I doubt you?)

Actually I would have used a displacement map for the holes. Map it on the HyperNURBS and set the subdivisions as high as necessary to make smooth holes. No need for boolean. This is probably not the best way, but a very quick one. :p

THATS CHEATING........:shame:.....wish I'd thought of it!
