View Full Version : skin morph modifier
ARTillery 11-22-2004, 02:27 AM Hi all,
Can anybody plz. tell me like a walkthrough the process of using the skin morph modifier??
I read the help and tried to use it..and I have some problems..
1- I chose my bone and created a morph in its original position, and then I rotated it and made another morph and strated tweaking..now when I came back to the 1st morph it was all messed up..
2- the mirrorr thing..I tried it a couple of times, once a success , once a failure..couldn't get it..
3- this is propably important but I couldn't understand it..it's the influance angle..
thanx in advance..

1. Don't create a morph at the original state. Morphs should be created at the extreme poses of a bone.
2. Add the bone you want to mirror your morph on (say LArm00). Then select the morph you have created for RArm00 (you can check "Show Mirror Plane" and "Preview Bone" to see whether the right bone will get the morphs). Click "Paste Mirror". Result: ALL morphs you have created for RArm00 are mirrored on LArm00.
3. Scrub the timeslider to a neutral pose and check whether the morph you made for a bend position still influences the mesh. Reduce the influence angle so that the morph's influence is 0 at a neutral position. Take a look in the help for a definition of influence angle.
Hope that helps,
Andrea

thanx for the replay..
I'll try number 1 & 3 but for the mirror ..is it important to do the mirror while in in the edit mode or it's ok to do it any time??and when I show mirror plane and preview bone all i see is a red vertices..that indicates nothing to me..I mean in the skin modifier mirror mode there is a green and blue ver. wich make all sense to me ..
and another thing..
I was making the modifier for the knee area..and I made the bone rotate by moving the IK goal on the foot..is this ok? or I have to rotate the bone with IK??
Regarding your mirror question: Go out of Create or Edit mode for mirroring.
Regarding your IK question: I'm not sure whether I understand this question ... Normally you would use helpers to which the IK Goals are linked to animate your character. But you can do it with IK Goals also. Take a look at the character animation tutorials that come with max. They'll introduce you to some important and common techniques.

thanx for the help..and :blush:sorry..it's my mistake..I meant to write fk instead of ik..
my question was can I make the morph using IK or it's exclusive to fk..but I sort it out now..I guess it's ok to use either of them..anyway..thank you very much for your help..
