View Full Version : a fire hydrants view
moshi 08-26-2002, 12:33 PM Hey everyone,
First post for me. Did this for a magazine cover, but they decided not to use it. Oh well, like it anyway.
Let me know what you think. I have posted the original pencil rough and then the final vector version.
Thanks heaps - look forward to your comments.

i got two comments
the frontleftleg is turned inwards and it feels kinda strange when you read the pose ,and second the dog pisses out of his ears or something. ;-)
Other then that i really like it!Good job

just because it looks finished does not mean I do not mind making changes to make it stronger.
so say what you want, be harsh, be true as that is what is going to help me become a stronger illustrator.
thanks heaps.

yay...comments...
Fiber: I was going for the turned in legs to give a more 'goofy' look to the character. kind of mkaes him look for unstable and a bit silly. But I understand where you are coming from. I will give a drawing of the dog with the foot out a go.
Piss out of the ear - I LIKE IT!
art7sayan: hey, thanks for the comments..I think I will try playing around with the dog drawing a little more.
keep them coming...

Very nice! I like it a lot!
But same critic as the other...The dog pose is hard to understand the first time...
The Fire hydrants glottis position is a bit strange to...Put it more on the right i think!
But it's really nice! :applause:
No doubt about it ... it's a technically excellent piece. However, there are design problems that make it only "so-so".
I agree with the comments so far in this thread. The pose of the dog is really wierd. The front leg looks as if he's standing on the top-side of his right paw and the urine coming out of his ear is really ... uhm ... disturbing.
I'm really wondering why the fire hydrant is so concerned/scared. The dog is obviously on the other side of the street pissing on nothing (or maybe it's a gnat that we can't see?). That's one really dumb dog and a very high strung fire hydrant.
That's the brutal critique. The good part is that your colors and background look really nice! Hope I'm not being to harsh on you ... I like the image, just a bit confused by it's layout. You have any other stuff you can show us?
Oh ... and welcome to CGtalk! :wavey:

He, nice work man!
I agree on the dog. Think most of the problem gets solved when you put it's head at the other side of it's body (to theleft I mean not to it's back ;) ). And extend the piss-line (just made up that word, ain't it a great one LOL) more to where it came from (btw, it has no dick and bitches sit down).
I think the fire hydrant is running from it, so maybe put in jumplines and splashes, if that makes sense.
Can't wait to see more of your postings. I like this one a lot :buttrock:

thanks for these comments...very helpful! :)
Kirt: Believe me, I have had much harsher words than that! I've got a thick skin about my work. So thank you, it is much more useful than "Thats nice".
Dog is crappy - it is voted and decided!! I shall redraw the dog I think, get a stronger pose. Glad the dog looks dumb, and really happy the fire hydrant is high strung.
Even though he is on the other side of the street, I think it is more the incoming pool of piss to worry about.
I would be really concered if I was rooted to the ground, and there was no escape, and a giant pool of piss was edging towards me! yuck! :hmm:
Jeroentje: Thanks for the kind words. Yep, dog pose needs work, and I shall do so. Piss-line (I LIKE THE WORD!) shall be extended to the origin. No bits for my dogs, think that has something to do with my work background.
I will post some more, expect to see a cool robot guy up here real soon.

- this.. hunn.. "piss-on-the-floor-stuff"(real bad english my one.. think the word is piss poll) doesnt look that good.. looks like you made it berofe doing the floor, it goes down the sidewalk but doesnt looks like it. understood?
- you could give some more detail to the fence and the floor, to make it more interesting
- i dont get this scene.. is the hydrand running or what?
