Hi everyone

I've knocked out a 45 minute video tutorial on rigging a hand and automating the motion with sliders. Apart from going through how to rig a hand without using IK, I wanted to go into in some depth doing vertex painting.
I've done this one in 8.5 using std bones and XPresso so no modules required. rel 9 owners with Mocca 2 could alternatively use PoseMixer to control the hand although this would mean multiple copies of the entire body mesh would be required.

Although I've only animating the bones moving one axis you could quite easily set up sliders to make the fingers splay outwards. An alternative to having a slider for each finger would be to have one and the hand makes a fist.

Have fun. I'm hoping to move on to a Mocca 2 rigging sometime in the future as I'm keen to show what a great piece of kit this is!!

Owners of CE6 and XL 7 may benefit from the vertex painting sections as this hasn't changed.

Flash format. 45min 27 sec in duration. The videos are zipped up and come in 2 parts, 18mb & 19mb. Unzip the files and open the html file in your browser.

Look out for the tutorial in the tutorial section under Animating / Bones & Rigging

Hey guys I jsut registered for the site grabbing this tut right now. I looked around I think I will be hanging out there as well lol. I have C4D and the only thingk I can really do with it is create abstract images for wallpapers. Hopefully between you guys and CGT I can start using the program for what it is meant to be used for.

Well I can't find the subject for this tut on your forums so I will say it here. BRILLIANT! man good job. I know how much a pain in the butt it is to make video tutorials. ANd you pull it off wonderfully. Very clean and presise. I perfer video tuts over screen shot tuts because you can actually see whats being done as it is being done. Only problem is finding free tuts cause the programs themselves already cost too much frigging money :) gg

I had no problem at all with R9 untell you started on the expresso since its little different now. But after playing with it I figured it out. You should at least look at the tutorial before you complan about stuff. It shows you how to get the object. You just cut off ottos hand. Good tutorial. Thanks alot for having it free :-D

Sorry to bring up such an old thread, i searched the forums and couldn't find exactly what i was looking for, but i was wondering does anyone have a tutorial or some tips on creating the basic bone layout and IK settings for the upper body? I have the legs done, but for some reason i can't quite grasp the shoulders down to the hands. :banghead:
