reven 11-19-2004, 02:27 AM in general...i am finding that my interests in both photoshop and in Maya are leaning toward lighting and how textures are supported with lighting!...if this is my area of attraction...to what extent do i need to be able to model or animate?

You don't need to be able to model or animate to do those things. But it helps (especially with a universally needed skill like modeling (which happens earlier in a production than texture or lighting)) in that it lets you expand the range of jobs for which you're qualified. Try to learn some skills that are early-pipeline as well as late-pipeline.

It is genrally easier to get a job in modeling and transfer to lighting then to go straight into lighting, or start in texturing, then go to lighting. But this is not always the case.
