- Great model!
- The grain in the background prevents the car from looking like it is in the environment.
- Did you place the highlights in the front or did it just work out that way. (Either way,I like it.)

Hey did you use that renderdrive stuff? It looks like some of their images espcially the one they put on their ads. Check their site gallery, see the 4th row, first and last images.

http://www.artvps.com/gallery.ihtml?page=industdesign see the fourth row

I've heard it's pretty slow and it takes along time to render.. but that's just what I've seen. But to each his own right?

Been awhile! I will send you an email with updates in the morning, intersted in where you are now as well. Thanks for all your replies guys. Seeing as how this was something I did at work as a demo piece, I can't post a wire or give much how to info on this. Sorry! However, I plan on posting a new car in a few weeks, that a friend and I are working on in our spare time, that I can give more info on. Thanks guys!!

p.s. I can say, that this was not rendered using a renderdrive :)

Very nice work!

Generally the look is very photorealistic, but the falloff of the reflection on the right front makes it more CG. No explanation but my eyes feel it as unnatural. The bronze/golden logo at the middle looks a bit fake compared to the rest of the work (perhaps its the render that came out like this).

And one last thing is that the car looks a bit to dark below. It should be more ambient lit there.
Just some comments, it doesn't mean i'm right, but no matter what the work is magnificent!!

P.S is that a team work or a person's work?

I personally don't get this. I would understand if he would have modeled the car by him self, but no. So this falls below the other cars for my oppinion, because it's been only rendered, not even modeled by self.

Sorry for this critism, but i just think that the level of getting on the frontpage is getting sadly low.

Good render anyway, but nothing special.

brianellebracht
11-19-2004, 01:59 PM
wait a second Sceme (http://member.php?u=19925), i am not sure if you read the info on the inital post, under the artist, it says GTN VFX team, not Brian Ellebracht. A coworker here, modeled the car. I created the scene, textured and rendered it. I don't understand why you are making such a big deal of this, alot of work that is created by more than one person, makes the front page.

Lets face it.....it puts the photo in photoreal!!!

Actually....if only photos/or the real car could look like this good........actually it makes me want to buy that stupid car (I happen to hate those cars).

Truly amazing work Brian....your a superstar these days...........now get down to Saint Louis and MOD my Xbox for me please!!!

Well the model looks good, at least from what could be seen there.
On the other hand .. the lights are somehow wrong placed or too strong in some ares.
If you examine the picture it looks like a scene with some lights targeting the car (obviously) like the car is not from that picture.
The car shading is a bit too strong and too clear in comparison with the background.

In my view I'd reduce the lights factor and the contrast a bit. Then add some noise (fine) to match the background. Also careful with the lights and shadows produced by the background image (need to have impact on the 3dmodel too).

Cheers

You know Brian, I really cannot see where any of the negative comments are valid. People just feel the need to nit-pick. This render is great. I am a Maya user and this is one of the best projects I have seen thus far. I normally see a project like this created in 3DS max or Lightwave. It feels good to see images like this come from Maya. Great work!

11-21-2004, 03:10 PM
thanks guys. there are alot more replies than i thought :) again, I can't really post any wires or anything, the data belongs to the studio I work at, hope you all undersand, but Soon I will be posting a personal proj, and I will be able to post wires and such. Thanks,

brianWell i have to say iīm sorry. Because i didnīt see any "team" on first reading. And i said these oppinion because i do see stuff alot that peoples takes somebodys other model and just renders it. I donīt mean any teamworking now, but really makes them as their own "artwork"

Like i said, i am really sorry. This is another day iīm writing this new comment and i guess it was abit bad day on the other day.

And yes, as it is a teamwork. I have to say the result is great.

Fascinating.
Kurvstudios also have a tutorial DVD on modelling that very car http://www.kurvstudios.com/lightwave/vehicle_modeling.php

Though this was for Lightwave rather than Maya, a WIP thread can be seen here

Nexy,

Thanks for your comments. I hope you understand, but I can't really write a tutorial about how we did this, or give out to much info. Why? I work for a studio in detroit mi, that gains most of its revenue from automotive work. There are a hand full of studios that we compete with on a daily basis for work. If I were to post information on how this image was made, I would be helping out the competiton. From a business stand point, I don't think my boss would appreciate it. Thanks alot, maybe in the future I can give more info on how I do my work, but for now I can't. Good luck,

Brian

Brain,
The rendering and texturing of this vehicle are well executed. Nice work! What really blew me away is the Model. May I direct a few comments to your friend that modeled this vehicle.

I was on the team modelers at IAS Design that created the production surface that the real Chevy SSR was created from.

I know this vehicle very very intimately, and may I tell your friend at GTN that this is a mind splitting replica of our work. We spent the better part of a year modeling this vehicle in Alias Auto Studio that has amazing tools for creating super polished surface. To create this model in Maya with it's limited NURBS tools is an amazing task, and even more incredible if it was modeled in polygons.

I back all of the positive comments in this thread and give my congratulations on a job well done to the modeler of this vehicle. Please, who is the modeler? Talent like this should be in the spot light.

Kind Regards,
David Ostler

this is an hdri available for dosch it is from the extreme hi res hdri pack. I highly recomend this, it is much better than the low res packs. Most hdris in this set are very usable. Thanks and good luck,
