a few questions about printing on canvas...

about/best guess/estimate does large size printing cost to a canvas (4' x 3' or so)?
i want to make a large picture that i can hang on a wall.

what file size (dpi, height and width) do I make to print to that (4' x 3')?
is it something i create small first and playback to a large size before printing...it must be a huge file when done.

for those who have experience printing to canvas are there any gotchas to look for (color correcting, borders/edges when canvas wraps, etc.)?

trying to decide if it is worth the cost to make canvas prints of some pics i have.
thanks in advance.

Hey. I work in a large format printing office. I can get it printed for you for about 10$ per square foot. Watch out most places ar echarging about 14$ per square foot. That is a 12 square foot print, so you are looking at about $120. Make it full size at 100 dpi. Canvas has a noticeably smaller ability to carry detail over the photogloss, pvc, and vinyl products, so 100dpi is more than adequate.

Gotcha 1: Make sure you print a proof from photoshop to get a sample for the printer to match to.
Gotcha 2: It'll come rolled, so youll need to take it to a framer to have it stretched.
Gotcha 3: Unless it's printed on an epson, which has colorfast inks and about a 10 year lifespan, or printed on a solvent printer like a roland sc-540(mine, which has about a 20 year span indoors), it'll start to lose vibrancy in 2 years or less, more or less if exposed to more or less direct sunlight.
