Welcome to the cgtalk sketch group.

We will try to post one of these topics once a day for your enjoyment.

These are the rules:
* Post only your FINAL piece on this thread, based on the topic on the thread.
* RESOLUTION : The image can have any aspect ratio up to 800 x 600
* They can be done on any medium.
* If you wish, you can add a brief text description about your piece.
* Only original compositions. No "tributes" or plagiarizing, unless is it an integral part of the challenge.
* The topics will be posted every day between 10:00 - 12:00 am US EST.
* The artist also has to post total length of time it took (Thanks Clanger for the idea) and program used.
* Only final pieces can be posted on the thread. They must have been done AFTER the topic has been announced.
* Any piece caught breaking the rules will be taken off the thread.
* The topics will be picked at random from the list on this thread
(The author will be given credit). So guys keep them coming.
*You can add multiple entries, but please dont post WIP (Unless you intend to update them). NEW RULE!
* Ill post ANOTHER thread to quantify and track WHO has participated the most on these threads.

Good luck

All right, so for the first time I am posting in this forum.

Just some info about myself. I am more of a hobbyist, having bought a tablet yesterday only. You can see that as of now, I am not much good at it, artistically as well as technically.

Hope to get better with the help of great folks at CGtalk.

And ya, I used PS7, took me around 30 min. I know it is very rough, but my work hours are Aghhh..:(

sa9dm - it looks like you are off to a good start, and the daily sketch group is a great way to gain experience and get in some practice and good advice. The discipline of drawing every day is really good, and since the topics change too, it helps to flex those artistic muscles in the brain! :) Welcome, hope to see more of your work.

Alice - the difference is that you were going to have a green monster with you as the little girl - but for DarthChicken...um I mean Supervlieg...he IS the monster in the pic! :applause:

Lol, I actually tried some different compositions before trying this one. And the monster was green at one point. Creepy...

Cool monsters Jeffsimpson (it looks original to me) and Supervlieg!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v258/Got10mm/20041117myimaginaryfriend.jpg

I didn't have an imaginary friend. I had imaginary friends, and they were always trying to kill me! But I showed them who was boss of my dad's garden!

One day there was such a terrible battle that half the garden was destroyed. My dad was not very happy about that at all :wip: I had such thankless responsibilities!

grillkungen: Nice invisibility there! Throw a background in! Even a simple background creates far more depth in an image. I'm no expert on sketches (and you can see that by my effort!), but I think it helps.:)
Candaloo: Tee hee hee! He's so fat. I'd suggest the same thing for you as I did for grillkungen. Even a simple rough colour in the background brings out the image more.
Supervlieg: You're insane. An amazing artist, but insane.:D I love the contrast of colour to grey.
sa9dm: Go go pencil head! It's good to see you join in the DSG! You'll improve tenfold, believe me!
Art2: I don't care if it's an almost black space, I really like it!
S-Designs: Sock puppets are ALWAYS amusing!
Jeffsimpson: Great lighting and design. Love the colours.
GOT!: Keep it up! You've got style.

My Imaginary Friend....

I know there's a lot wrong with it (like I forgot to add shadows under their feet - and other things I'm not happy with) but I got tired of trying to fix it. About 2 hours PS/Wacom.

Hey there GOT...what have you been smokin' boy? :)

Keem - I really love yours...but you DO understand the difference between "imaginary" and "inflatable", right? HA HA! :scream:

This whole thread made me smile. And some really funny ones here :)

Well I sort of got carried away with this one... to the tune of nearly three hours  Didn't feel that long, but the time flew.

A little more than a hour. Painter.

So. . . is the imaginary friend the spider or the girl? Or is the collective properties of the two become the imaginary friend? Like the friend is the girl who has a spider.Bah~ forget it.

Needs more contrast.

Lots of imaginative critters heareabouts. Not surprising given the topic today.
Since i haven't been contributing for awhile and i found me some time i thought i'd put up something.
My imaginary friends growing up are basically different versions of me: shy-me, angry-me, critical-me etc... all giving me a piece of their mind at opportune moments.
Now they only appear on the very rare occassions in brief fleeting glimpses (after all, who talks to himself when he's all growned up?)
I wonder.... is it another valuable part of our childhood we leave behind?
http://almahir.com/cpg132/albums/CDS/2004_CDS165_my_imaginary_friend.jpg

15 min pencil self-portrait. 30 min digitally coloring it. 1 hr or so trying to find decent filters to get the final effect.

Candaloo, brkofdon. Bunnys are easy target to be imaginary friends I guess? http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/smile.gif Inspiration strikes from what I used to grow up watching. Bugs Bunny and Roger Rabbit are the most inspirable characters I ever saw since I was a child. http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/grin.gif

Once again many great entries!
Lol Art 2! Gotta love your crazy ideas! http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/grin.gif

RobinAyles: I like both the concept as well as the execution, nicely balanced pic, a depiction of a world of fantasy.
brkofdon: that's a great one, would love to have one like that.
Friday eve, captain chapo and HammyV: very nice pics indeed.

(Mine has been refusing to talk to me for years now, he feels that I'm not the sort of company an imaginary friend should keep)

WOW! Lots of entries on this topic - SWEEET!

Thanks for the compliments y'all (Robertt, Hammy, UnlikelyCorny, Keem) its always nice to have other's comment on your work. <blushes>

FridayEve - looks like Batman had his head put in a stretching machine! Nice composition. :)
Robertt - I really like this one alot - love the watercolor look! oh - just saw your 2nd one, gotta say I like the first one best, but I like the sentiment of the 2nd one too.
Wobb - I like it...as for the contrast, I think the main characters are fine, maybe just a different, darker background is all you need there. Good job!
GOT - Aaaah...Now I understand the plants! :) I don't need no mind altering substances either, and when people tell me I'm wierd, I just say, Thank you!
Captain Chapo - have you been smoking GOT's plants again?
thesuit - that is one SCARY looking cat!
Hey Octothreat! Is that the Jolly Green Giant? - HO HO HO... I like that a lot!
AHMED - looks more like a nightmare to me - EEK!
Effortless|Supra - Welcome to the group! Really nice first sketch! He looks like he could either be really sweet, or open that mouth to reveal sharp scary teeth! YIKE! As for improvement - just keep doing sketches, the more you practice, the better you get. And this is a great place to check out other people's style of working, then play around with it and see if it works for you.
brkofdon - I really like this one, super great line work!
Vitriolic - that is really nice I love their expressions! I can't believe you are doing these without a Wacom! Just set up a jar and collect your extra change - eventually, you will have enough to buy a Wacom.
SpaceCowboySpike - I have 2 comments...1) your mind must be a really crowded place, and 2) there is a name for this condition, it is called "multiple personality disorder"! jk
Aiori - Welcome aboard! Really super good first sketch! You know I just hate it when people come in with their first sketch and its better than mine and I've been working so hard to improve! ARGH! No, seriously - that is really nice. I like everything about it...besides I don't think you're ever too old to believe in fairies!
mahir - welcome back, my friend! I love your sketch! well worth the time you put into it!
Hammy - I just always love your sketches! I think another reason people have an imaginary rabbit friend is the movie "Harvey" where Jimmy Stuart had an imaginary rabbit friend (or was he real?) - he was a "Pooka" - Pookas are 6 foot tall invisible rabbits.
