CGTalk - poly wrc car -noob

hi there maya ppl..

im doing here a car tutorial, but im through some trouble..

im nearly compleated the main body, im using only one mesh.
(i did 1 half then duplicated and combine)

now i im splitting some interesting parts to make sub-d, and putting them to layers

for some reason i cant duplicate any poligon to put in the layer, if i do
all the model disappears...

what can i look in errors?

you could try to deleting history on the object Edit>Delete by type>History

if that doesnt work you could duplicate the object without history and not parented to the object, then try duplicating off of that or Delete what you dont want.
