View Full Version : Arch Illustration - Illustrator.. Crits
brobins 11-15-2004, 09:24 PM Hi
I did this illustration for a college project earlyer this year.. Its showing the arch from a bridge near to me.. It was all done in adobe illustrator, my aim was to show the form, lightness and transparency of the arch..
i am after any constructive crits. i liked it when i did it a few months ago but now i look at it and think it could be better.. the clouds were quickly knocked up in photoshop. the left bit of the arch is fading out because it was part of a screen with some text.. also it added to the 'transparency' feel of the arch..
how could this be improved upon to make it a more impressive visualization/illustration?
Many Thanks
Ben

I think, in order to make it a stand alone illustration...you'll definatly want to fill in the left side of the arch...
...also, I think you should make the clouds a bit more solid, in appearence. Right now, it just looks like the arches are standin' tall in some..fuzzy sky blue atmospheric area. If you were to render out the clouds a bit more realisticly, a bit more clearly...I feel that it would really give the piece a sense of height...and just that will make the image more powerfull. Because the viewer will immediatly get the sense of this massive arch cutting across the sky. Instead of it just sitting peacefully against a fuzzy backround.
...Also, I think the place where the wires attach the main structure seem ..just, tacked on. I think you should really work on making them appear to attach seemlessly to the arch.
...I think the arch itself looks extremely cool. Very slick, very nice. It's got a real cool feeling, you should try and keep that feeling goin' throughout the rest of the piece!

that's really nice...the only suggestion I have is to maybe add a bit more contrast between the bridge and the sky so that the bridge really pops away from the background. Then the light fluffy clouds will be fine without changing them. I've seen skies like that. And yes, you prob. should finish out the left side of the arch to make it more finished....but then again, I love it just the way it is, too!

thanks for the comments..
the reason the end bit was ghosted away is to allow space for some text to be layered over the top, you see its part of a page from an interactive cdrom.. (see below)
the actual illustration is attached below now,, i want this to look the best it can for my portfolio so i am after all the advice i get can :)
thanks

wow it is very nice and delicate!:)
the only suggestion i have is to add depth onto the picture by either blurring the closer part, or the further part of the bridge.
