hi m 3D max user now working on maya.i stared a detail model m bit confuge abt making sharp edges like we have charmful edge option in max wot should we do in maya for that.even when m using boolean its not working i have to make sharp cut and holes .when i use boolen its go disappear.

plz give me tips for poly modeling in maya.wots should be the work flow when going for complex detail charcter model.m having problem in making model outfit its having so many hole and sharp cut.acpect boolean wot mathod we can use for different kind of shape hole.:sad:

I'm not sure I understand your writing very well. By "charmful" edge option do you mean "chamfer"?

I'm not sure exactly what you are trying to do. Are you trying to make the edges of your model hard, or create holes in the geometry. It seems like you are making clothing for a character and trying to create holes in the geometry for appendages.

Could you please clarify?

Thanks for the reply.ya u got my point sorry its charmfer.i need sharp edge.
ya i have to to do geometry hole in clothing its having so many different shape.plz help me how to do that???????????

nope, still don't have it. its chamfer edge. Anyway chamfer edge is comparable to Bevel in Maya. You could also probably use extrude face and then a scale. Although I am still not sure what you mean by sharp edges and what your looking to do.

smoothing groups in Max are comparable to Maya's soften/harden edge normals tool. that would create hard edges.
